Today on Tommy T’s Obsession with the Freeperati – Master Debater edition

All righty, good people – Kibitzer said on last Monday’s obsession that he was going to cruise over to Freeperville to see how the site held up during the final Presedential debate – heh – as if Jim Rob and company were going to let a disastrous repeat (in the middle of a Freepathon, no less) of the near-total failure of the $352,000.00 / year website occur.

I find such cynical aspersions unfounded and completely ungrounded in reality, so let’s go see what improvements have been made!

From a “related” thread discussing the last R/O debate:

(Jim Robinson)

To: Yaelle

The system is not handling the increased loads and we do not know why yet. John says the system is not getting overloaded, the db is not overloaded, the cpus are mostly idle, the load averages are low, the db load averages are low, just reaches a point where throughput stalls. I’m not a techie and I have no idea how to fix it. I thought maybe we could add another server or more RAM or replace some older servers or something, but I guess John doesn’t think that will do it. There’s something wrong in the system software or the configuration but he’s having trouble finding it.

And I’m really upset too, but there’s not a freaking thing I can do about it until John gets it figured out.

Thanks.

Odd & Sods: Hump Day Roundup Edition

the-who odds--sods

This post is not about hunchbacks, weed killing, or humping. Sorry to disappoint you. I haven’t written one of these omnibus posts in ages and just felt like doing so. I am an arbitrary and capricious motherfucker sometimes. I may even make it a habit on Wednesdays, butdon’t want it to become a vice, which would make this whole exercise eerily like the title of a Doobie Brothers album, What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits. I obviously spend way too much time researching old album covers…

Now that I’ve thoroughly confused you, on with the show this is it:

Shorter Bill-O: CDC honcho should resign because he won’t come on my stupid awesome teevee show. Doesn’t Dr. Frieden know that we live in a Bill-O centric universe and that everything revolves around him? Bow down to Bill-O and kiss his mystic butthole.

Downstairs Willard: Anyone else remember the character of Upstairs John on NYPD Blue? He’s got bupkis to do with this segment. It’s called a teaser in the trade. Feel free to call me a prick. Now where was I? Oh, yeah, this:

In an evolution from his stiff, buttoned-up demeanor that was often lampooned during his previous White House runs, Romney dished in the interview on his favorite television show, his grandchildren and even a leg massage.

On “Downton Abbey”: “I think the show was most enjoyable in the first season. Then when Matthew (Crawley) went off to war, it was a bit of a departure for a few seasons,” Romney said, straight-faced. “I actually like the downstairs part more than the upstairs part, even though I think Mary (Crawley) is an absolutely delightful character and I love watching her.”

I think Willard Mittbot Romney likes the downstairs part better for voyeuristic reasons. He enjoys seeing how  his inferiors (aka the 47%) lived in Woody Old England. Now that I think of it, he probably identifies with the stiff and pompous Mr. Bates except for the whole accused murderer thing. Willard would have outsourced that to Bangladesh.

It’s reassuring that the Mittbot still feels the need to prove that he’s a human being, gosh darn it. I wonder if he likes Upstairs Mary because she’s an arrogant and haughty hottie, which is probably how he sees Ann. It’s probably a good thing that Willard is a generation removed from seeking out Mary as a sister wife like dear old grandad might have. This is what comes from my binge watching Big Love this summer…

I really hope people stop obsessively trying to discredit polls.
They aren’t gospel, but in the last two elections they have been fairly
accurate, and if anything, slightly republican leaning.

Go back and
check the RCP final poll average for the 2010 Senate races – 20 of 23
correctly senate seats picked correctly. Of the the 3 that were
incorrect, 2 dems won instead of the predicted republican, and the last
was Murkowski beating Miller in Alaska. And obviously, polls were better
than GOP cheerleaders this time as well.

The dumbest thing I hear around here is “no one polled me.”

The polls are open on the east coast!!

From this morning’s election day prayer thread:

“Heavenly
Father may you forgive this nation and its people for the many awful
sins that we have commited against you. We do not deserve the wonderful
ways we have been blessed and please forgive us for our
indifference, neglect and complacency towards you. (snip)

May you smash every crooked deed

GOD SMASH!

as evil men and women try to hold
onto power
and may this be so convincing that everyone knows that your
hand is in this.

Kibitzer – could you please yank the power cord to the Irony Alarm? Thank yew.

Then we may bring the light of your Gospel to our
people who do not know you and to the nations of the world.

May
you block and undo every policy and piece of legislation they have
passed that is harmful to this nation.

God has veto power? Or just an unending and eternal filibuster?

May you make every policy they
make fail and may you turn the hearts of the multitudes against them.
May you thwart every evil deed they try to divide this nation with. May
you bring their own mischief upon them ten fold. May you punish those in
our government who are lawless traitors and enemies of the Constitution
by exposing themand deliver them into our hands for justice.

And this we humbly ask in Jesus name. AMEN!”

And how exactly with the price of gas, and food, and the cost of debt,
and the bad employment numbers along with the fact that NOBODY really
likes his Obamacare plan does this bastard get 50 to 51 percent job
approval. Romney is not running an effective campaign if this is the

Thanks.

I completely agree. This is ridiculous! I know it’s not politically
correct to say this around here, but at what point does the equipment
for this site get upgraded, or replaced?

I’ve already purposed that I won’t even waste my time coming here for the next presidential debate.

Being an IT professional myself, I would suggest that cloud computing is just another crappy business model designed to squeeze more money out of you for the same service, with the added benefit of less security and a round-robin of finger-pointing when the shit breaks down.
Just buy another fucking hampster and be done with it.

That sounds well-reasoned!

May you punish those in
our government who are lawless traitors and enemies of the Constitution
by exposing them and deliver them into our hands for justice.

And this we humbly ask in Jesus name. AMEN!”

Today on Tommy T’s Obsession with the Freeperati – Poll Position edition

Well, its now one day until the Election, and the Poll threads have been exploding over at Freeperville.

I have my own prediction – I’m taking a week off posting, unless Schadenfreude dictates otherwise.

Let’s suit up and spin that airlock door, shall we?

In reverse order from oldest to newest –Galluping along!

7 day tracking: O – 50/R-44

3 day tracking: O – 51% approve/43% – disapprove

I don’t know what to make of this. Up until about 4 days ago, Gallup
had the race tied. There was a sudden shift to Obama on either Sat or
Sun which showed up first in the approval number. I thought it was a one
day good sample for Obama but that day rolled off the three day rolling
approval tracker today and his approval number actually went up…?

Accuracy as in they had Obama winning bigger than he did but they
were still accurate in that Obama won. I don’t really care if they’re
off a few points the fact is all these polls keep showing Obama ahead.
And how exactly with the price of gas, and food, and the cost of debt,
and the bad employment numbers along with the fact that NOBODY really
likes his Obamacare plan does this bastard get 50 to 51 percent job
approval. Romney is not running an effective campaign if this is the
case. Is he afraid to be tough?

This is a disaster.

all the polls showed McCain losing for weeks yet people here still
insisting the polls were wrong.
The similarities are annoying to say the

Face it. We’re squabbling over a few points. Another Freeper made a
good point. With all the mess all over the world, Romney should be up by
5 at least. Gas and food at record highs. Our embassies being overrun.
An American ambassador was KILLED for god’s sake. This race should be
