Your preznit, today in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
THE PRESIDENT: He considers the war on terror primarily a law enforcement and intelligence gathering operation. His top foreign policy advisor has questioned whether it’s even a war at all, saying that’s just a metaphor, like the war on poverty. I’ve got news. Anyone who thinks we are fighting a metaphor does not understand the enemy we face and has no idea how to win the war and keep America secure.
Your preznit, August 6, 2004 at the Unity Journalists of Color Convention, Washington, DC.
THE PRESIDENT: We actually misnamed the war on terror, it ought to be the struggle against ideological extremists who do not believe in free societies who happen to use terror as a weapon to try to shake the conscience of the free world. (Laughter.)
