A judge has ruled that the town of Taos must allow a group to hang a banner that says “Fire Rumsfeld” as it announces a peace rally.
The town had sought to stop the Action Coalition of Taos from referring to U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld on the banner, which advertises a March 19 rally.
Rumsfeld has a vacation home in Taos.
State District Judge Peggy Nelson said the words are not insulting or libelous and the speech deals with common debate.
The banner was to hang over the town’s main street.
