The Law of Unintended Consequences Cannot Be Repealed

From Holden:

Xenophobic crackers in Arizona are making it easier for immigrants to cross the US-Mexico border by setting off a series of false alarms…

Volunteers who have converged on the Mexican border to watch for illegal immigrants are disrupting U.S. Border Patrol operations by unwittingly tripping sensors that alert agents to possible intruders, an agency spokesman complained Monday.

”Every sensor has to be addressed,” Maheda said. ”It’s taken away from our normal operations.”

…and by siphoning manpower away from other portions of the border.

The Department of Homeland Security’s plan to shift more than 700 border patrol agents to Arizona has some Texas lawmakers seriously worried.

The buildup eventually will include 155 seasoned border patrol agents, 379 trainees as they graduate and 200 agents on temporary assignment — all from border patrol stations in other Southern states, including Texas.
