Statistically Speaking

From Holden:

With Lunaville counting 41 dead American soldiers in Iraq so far during the month of June, more than half the 80 reported killed in all of May which was the highest monthly total since January, Rummy went to the BEEB last night to give his assessment on conditions in Iraq.

In an interview with Sir David Frost on BBC2’s Newsnight last night, Mr Rumsfeld was asked whether the security situation had improved since the day after the war ended.

“Well, statistically no. But clearly it has been getting better as we’ve gone along,” he replied.

“In other words, at the end of the war the army fled, was captured … and the country was defeated.

“The insurgency then built over a period of time, and it has had its ups and downs.”

Mr Rumsfeld added: “A lot of bad things that could have happened have not happened.”
