To brief or not

From Scout:

The White House canceled a classified briefing on Iraq to be held today for U.S. Senators according to Raw Story….

President Bush has cancelled a classified briefing on the situation in Iraq, according to a letter from four Democratic senators obtained by RAW STORY.(Link to see letter and story)

US Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad had been set to brief Senators today.

Looks like Zalmay Khalilzad is getting his word out. From Al Kamen’s column in today’s Washington Post (via Harry Shearer)….

And we won’t be shocked if the throes go on for quite a while longer, based on a May 6 cable we got the other day from Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad.

The column goes on to quote generously from the cable on the situation in Iraq. Go read but it isn’t good. I wonder if Khalilzad gave this to WaPo before or after the briefing was canceled.
