“Promise me you will use this gun to kill me by your own hand. I don’t want that knife, I don’t want the knife, use the gun,” Carroll remembered crying hysterically to the Iraqi man who was watching her with a 9mm pistol at his side.
Lest any of us forget it, even though it was only one of many instances in which the right-wing media “community” displayed a shocking lack of compassion and a savage glee in someone else’s torment, here is what our bright conservative lights in the media had to say about Jill Carroll upon her release:
“She strikes me as the kind of woman who would wear one of those suicide vests. You know, walk into the, try and sneak into the Green Zone … She cooked with them, lived with them … She may be carrying Habib’s baby at this point.”
I hope they’re sorry. I know they’re not, but the small part of me that believes some higher power punishes us for cruelty to one another, the part of me that read Dante and remembers Inferno vividly, does hope that they’re sorry.
