Republican was source of Foley emails

Not that this will silence conservatives on this but according toThe Hill the emails were given to the media by a GOPer…

The source who in July gave news media Rep. Mark Foley’s (R-Fla.) suspect e-mails to a former House page says the documents came to him from a House GOP aide.

That aide has been a registered Republican since becoming eligible to vote, said the source, who showed The Hill public records supporting his claim.

The same source, who acted as an intermediary between the aide-turned-whistleblower and several news outlets, says the person who shared the documents is no longer employed in the House.

But the whistleblower was a paid GOP staffer when the documents were first given to the media.

The source bolstered the claim by sharing un-redacted e-mails in which the former page first alerted his congressional sponsor’s office of Foley’s attentions. The copies of these e-mails, now available to the public, have the names of senders and recipients blotted out.

These revelations mean that Republicans who are calling for probes to discover what Democratic leaders and staff knew about Foley’s improper exchanges with under-age pages will likely be unable to show that the opposition party orchestrated the scandal now roiling the GOP just a month away from the midterm elections.

  1. I didn’t catch the news you’re talking about. Is it true that the media had these emails for a few months? Which media? Any details? Any response from who received it?
Not to become a Repub talking point, but it is icky that they held on to this information for a while, if true.
If it was CREW, then we know they did the responsible thing, and turned them over to the FBI.

  2. Just saw the (see below) web page. Oy Vay! I say we use it. Despite the proof that hsi folks told the republican speaker that Foley was hitting on boys (not only that, but young boys who were under the guidance and protection on the republican hous), Hastert apparently forgot about it in the “laundry list” of items. That is, he is so dumb and morally corrupt that he didn’t see this to be a problem.
Despite the public outcry, according to Hastert, the only folks who care about a congressman hitting on teenage boys in his care are the democrats and abc news.
The Dems are the ones for moral values.
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Republican House Speaker Dennis Hastert, resisting calls for his resignation by conservative groups over his handling of a sex scandal involving former Rep. Mark Foley and teenage congressional pages, said Democrats and ABC News were fanning the controversy.
Hastert, R-Ill., told the Chicago Tribune in an interview published Thursday that he had no intention of resigning. Republican strategists fear that the Foley news will further undercut Republican efforts keep control of the House. Democrats need to make a net gain of 15 seats to gain a majority.
“Our members are supportive. I think that [resignation] is exactly what our opponents would like to have happen — that I’d fold my tent and others would fold our tent and they would sweep the House,” Hastert said.
    etc., etc.
