Looks like Katherine Harris’ 13th Congressional District of Florida, solidly red territory, is about toturn bright blue.
[Democrat Christine] Jennings now leads [Republican Vern] Buchanan 50 percent to 38 percent, according to a random telephone poll of 400 likely voters in the 13th Congressional District conducted earlier this week. That’s higher than the 46 percent to 38 percents edge she had three weeks ago and despite Buchanan’s financial advantage and barrage of television ads.
“It’s becoming apparent that no matter how much money Vern spends trying to buy this election, the voters of District 13 won’t be fooled by his misleading attacks,” Kathy Vermazen, Jennings’ campaign spokeswoman, said Thursday.
“You can make a poll say anything you want it to say,” Buchanan campaign spokeswoman Sally Tibbetts said.
But what Buchanan’s polls are saying, Tibbetts wouldn’t divulge. “We do internal polling for strategic purposes, not for press releases,” she said.
Other poll results:
• 50 percent gave President Bush an unfavorable rating, while 47 percent had a favorable opinion of him
• 51 percent held an unfavorable view of Rep. Katherine Harris, who vacated the 13th District seat to run for Senate. Her favorable rating was 40 percent.
• 51 percent of those polled were registered Republicans, 38 percent registered Democrats and the rest independents.
