NEW ORLEANS They came on like rock stars – arms aloft, music pounding, lights flashing, the crowd standing and going wild.
Former presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush have their act down pat and audiences eating it up.
The pair addressed the 25,000-plus people attending the National Association of Realtors convention in New Orleans Saturday night, drawing at least six standing ovations and almost continuous applause.
Bush began the show by reminiscing about the first house he and Barbara Bush owned, a tiny shotgun divided into two apartments, with the residents sharing one bathroom.
The two women on the other side of the house entertained men nightly, Bush said, making it almost impossible for future presidents 41 and 43 to get much sleep.
Retirement has been good, Bush said, although he acknowledged missing some of the perks of the presidency, saying he even missed the large groups of demonstrators he once had to deal with.
He recalled a demonstration that was on hand for his arrival in San Francisco, describing it as big, and led by the “ugliest woman I’ve ever seen in my life.”
The woman approached his limousine with a sign and shouted `stay out of my womb,”
“I thought `Lady, there’s absolutely no problem,” Bush said.
Another problem with retirement, Bush said, was that certain things have not faded in memory.
“After 14 years no one forgets if you throw up on the Japanese premiere,” he said.

2 Ex-Presidents Tour With Well-Honed Act

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — They’re separated by more than 20 years, they come from opposing political parties, and one evicted the other from the White House. But Bill Clinton and George Bush act like a team, a pair of touring comedians with a well-honed act.
The two former presidents even have their entrance down pat, striding in with arms aloft, music pounding, lights flashing, the crowd standing and going wild.
The pair addressed more than 25,000 people attending the National Association of Realtors convention on Saturday, drawing at least six standing ovations and almost continuous applause.
Bush and Clinton thanked the real estate agents for holding their convention in New Orleans. It’s the biggest convention to come to the city since Hurricane Katrina hit Aug. 29, 2005, and the pair has raised $130 million to aid New Orleans and the Gulf Coast in recovering from the storm.
Retirement has been good, Bush said, although he misses some of the perks of the presidency.
One problem with retirement, Bush said, is that memories do not fail on certain topics.
“After 14 years no one forgets if you throw up on the Japanese premier,” he said.
