The reason I say that is there’s a fundamental debate in Washington, when you really get down to it, and the debate is who best to spend your money. And I believe a cattleman can spend their money better than the government can.

I want to remind you in the bill we submitted to Congress we asked for a $17-billion increase in conservation spending over a 10-year period. That’s an increase over the last farm bill. That includes money for CRP, and a 30-percent increase for equip.

If you manufacture a good that is sold overseas, you’re making more money that somebody who’s not exporting. Isn’t that an interesting fact?

I believe competition brings out the best in everybody. So I don’t mind competition, so long as the playing rules are fair.

I did not know that FLORIDA was overseas.
Not that I am in any way endorsing ‘the decider’, but when he referred to “equip”, he was talking about the USDA’s Environmental Quality Incentives Program, known amongst those of us who have these grants, as “EQIP”. Funding EQIP is a good thing.

It’s no longer evil-doers we’re fighting, it’s ‘pure evil’. Just like you can’t fight terrorism because it’s a tactic, not an opponent you can’t fight ‘evil’. My 6th grade D&D group had more foreign policy savvy in 1981 than this President has 7 years into his term. The game isn’t only about fighting every orc and troll you meet – it’s about becoming strong enough and experienced enough so orcs and trolls aren’t a threat. We aren’t gaining experiece points or new spells by killing Sadr City teenagers and Anbar province malcontents.
