Cheney goes to Iraq to shoot the Parliament’s 2 month vacation in the face

Must have packed his Airstream because Cheney has made a surprise visit to Iraq which is “aimed at redoubling efforts to end divisive infighting among Iraq’s
ethnic factions” according to WaPo.

Cocker [U.S. ambassador to Iraq] told reporters traveling with Cheney that urging the
parliament to stay in session through these difficult times was clearly
on the vice president’s agenda.

“For the Iraqi parliament to take
a two-month vacation in the middle of summer is impossible to
understand,” said Crocker, who traveled with Cheney from Washington.

Cheney’s
message with Iraqi leaders, according to a senior administration
official who briefed reporters, was to be: “We’ve all got challenges
together. We’ve got to pull together. We’ve got to get this work done.
It’s game time.”

Hmmm a message of not taking summer vacation at a difficult time…in fact Game Time. That’s just a wee bit ironic coming from the guy who was pissed that he had to cut his vacation short due to America’s greatest natural disaster (man made in NOLA)

When asked by a reporter why he did not return from his vacation
earlier than last Thursday, three days after the hurricane [Katrina] hit, the
vice president replied: “I came back four days early.”

Seriously… the administration must be concerned about THIS.They should be very concerned.

  1. To say nothing of someone else in a position of authority who took a month long vacation in the summer when the system was blinking red. I don’t remember Dick Cheney’s being that concerned about that particular lapse.

  2. now if you were an Iraqi in the middle of a civil war and with a foreign occupying and this blowhard, lying, spew spouting fool from the occupiers, with an 18% approval rating in the US shows up to harangue you, would you do anything other than ‘yes’ him, send him on his way, and go about what you were doing? I didn’t think so.
    What the neowhiners have made clear to the entire world (including their fearsome mystical islamofascist enemy) with their insistence on no exit strategy is that they, and by association the entire US, is captive to the Iraqis fighters.

    According to “Ol’ Strom”, a biography of Senator Strom Thurmond by Jack Bass, Randall Johnson, the driver of a state vehicle transporting a convicted female killer named Sue Logue to the prison death house in 1943, said then U.S. Army Major Thurmond got into the back seat with his friend Logue and they were “a huggin’ and a kissin’ the whole way”. Joe Frank Logue said his Aunt Sue “was the only person ever seduced on the way to the electric chair”.

    That’s quite some spirit, reaching out from the grave.
