“At the end of the day, I believe fully the president is doing the right thing, and I think all we need is some attacks on American soil like we had on (Sept. 11, 2001), and the naysayers will come around very quickly to appreciate not the commitment for President Bush, but the sacrifice that has been made by men and women to protect this country,” the newspaper quoted Dennis Milligan as saying.
“All we need” is some more dead Americans to bring us around to Milligan’s point of view? That’s all we need? Well, when he puts it that way, doesn’t seem like much of a sacrifice, does it? A few thousand more dead Americans — what’s that if it swells the ranks of those who approve of the president and his party in the polls? We regret that we have so few lives to give for his popularity.
To say this is ghoulish and appalling is to fall far short of appropriate characterization. There are days there simply aren’t enough adjectives — or for that matter, curse words — in the English language.
