Molly Ivins has died…
AUSTIN — Molly Ivins, whose biting columns mixed liberal populism with
an irreverent Texas wit, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at her home in
Austin after an up-and-down battle with breast cancer she had waged for
seven years. She was 62.

We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every
single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some
action to help stop this war. Raise hell. Think of something to make
the ridiculous look ridiculous. Make our troops know we’re for them and
trying to get them out of there. Hit the streets to protest Bush’s
proposed surge. If you can, go to the peace march in Washington on Jan.
27. We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding,
“Stop it, now!”

I was about to post that Dildo Diaries post – thank you Daniel DiRito! It’s brilliant and made me laugh out loud, which few things manage to do. Fewer, now that Molly Ivins is gone.
I am very, very sad. Sadder than expected. Glad to have a community of lefties here online. (Though usually I just lurk.)

I wish I had gotten to see her speak in person. She was scheduled to speak in the SF Bay Area. I bought tickets, but that was when she had her first battle with breast cancer and she canceled. I wasn’t able to see her when she returned.
I miss her already.
Perhaps the best way to honor Molly is to do just as she said, “raise more Hell!” No more wishy washy hesitancy about whether we should risk offending someone by protesting.

I have been reading Ivins’ words for decades. She helped keep me sane during the Reagan/Bush I era. She kept me from crawling into a corner to die during the Shrubbite’s recent tour of duty.
Molly will be missed.
Man, that sucks. The good die young, so you can bet W and HW are going to get old and gray. Er…grayer.
Reading Molly made me a better progressive. I once heard her remind liberals to celebrate losing too, otherwise you can lose practice.
