To Bigotry No Sanction, To Persecution No Assistance

Jena was a throwback. Racism’s over. It’s all just a left-wing myth.

LITITZ, Pa. – For years, a clique of high school students in this prosperous and overwhelmingly white borough have worn clothes adorned with Confederate flags and parked their pickups in a section of the school parking lot known as “redneck row.”

The display, some parents of minority students say, was just one symptom of festering racism that school officials ignored until animosities boiled over last week.

That’s when three white 16-year-old students allegedly yelled racial slurs and threw paper wads at minority students outside the 1,600-student Warwick High School.

School officials vowed to discipline the three students, tighten security and ban Confederate flags on school property. On Wednesday, police charged the three with disorderly conduct.

The “disturbing and repulsive” Oct. 3 confrontation was a “wake-up call” for Warwick High School, said Superintendent John George. “Perhaps we were lulled into a false sense that our school district was immune to racism and bigotry,” he said.

Maybe somebody can get Bill O’Reilly an iced tea and sort all this out.

A.

ps. Not for nothing, Mr. George, but if your kids were walking around with Confederate flags on in little racist cliques, then nobody was immune from anything whether you saw it before now or not.Jesus. I hate when people say “But there were no problems here!” when what they really mean is, “no problems we gave enough of a fuck about to notice.”

  1. Warwick. Flash back to 1966. Our high school band did exchange concerts with Warwick. Staying at my house was a female named P. She had to go to classes with me during the day before the concert. Like a good citizen, I introduced her to various people in my classes, including class officers. She and some of my friends were at my house that evening, and she expressed her upset that several of the class officers I introduced her to were Very Brown. We piled on her for being a racist, guest or not, and pointed out that they had won their offices in a school that was 2/3 white, as well as 1/3 black, and that they were outstanding human beings by any measure.
Warwick. Still the same old place, breeding racists.

  2. What? Ban the Confederate Flag?? What’s next? No Nooses?
What would Maccaca George Allen say?
After all Thompson’s counting on it to win the south.

  3. Do people like that loopy principal really believe that the confederate flag is anything more than a symbol of racism? We are continually told that it is symbol of historical pride in the south, a way of honoring their ancestors, etc. But, I thought most of us are able to see through that. Apparently I was wrong.

  4. Do people like that loopy poster really believe that the US flag is anything more than a symbol of racism? We are continually told that it is symbol of historical pride in the nation, a way of honoring our ancestors, etc. But, I thought most of us are able to see through that. Apparently I was wrong.

  5. til we have integrated housing and get rid of the rite wing and rid of assholes, we ain’t getting rid of this shit.
    actually, to hate is human.

  6. And some people have the temerity to say that Pennsylvania is “Philadelphia on one side, Pittsburgh on the other, and Alabama in the middle.”

  7. I was pleasantly surprised that the white pelters were the ones charged with disorderly conduct instead of the minority peltees.
See, PA is *much* better than the South!

  8. Does that ‘historical pride’ thing play when you’re at a high school in a Union state? I think, north of the actual Mason-Dixon line, you have to read the stars-and-bars as at least a “bigot on board” sign.

  9. I’m kind of disappointed that the school is banning the Confederate flag. I’d rather be able to identify the racist morons from a distance.
