Article of Impeachment–Katrina

The following isone of the articles of impeachment introduced by Congressman Dennis Kucinich:

Article XXXI

In his conduct while President of the United States, George W. Bush, in
violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office
of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability,
preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States,
and in violation of his constitutional duty under Article II, Section 3
of the Constitution “to take care that the laws be faithfully
executed”, has both personally and acting through his agents and
subordinates, failed to take sufficient action to protect life and
property prior to and in the face of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, given
decades of foreknowledge of the dangers of storms to New Orleans and
specific forewarning in the days prior to the storm. The President
failed to prepare for predictable and predicted disasters, failed to
respond to an immediate need of which he was informed, and has
subsequently failed to rebuild the section of our nation that was

Hurricane Katrina killed at least 1,282 people, with 2 million more
displaced. 302,000 housing units were destroyed or damaged by the
hurricane, 71% of these were low-income units. More than 500 sewage
plants were destroyed, more than 170 point-source leakages of gasoline,
oil, or natural gas, more than 2000 gas stations submerged, several
chemical plants, 8 oil refineries, and a superfund site was submerged.
8 million gallons of oil were spilled. Toxic materials seeped into
floodwaters and spread through much of the city and surrounding areas.

  1. Thanks for posting this. I hope at the very least it keeps this issue in the front of people’s minds. It certainly isn’t in the media. An idiot I work with told me that Kucinich is bitter because he didn’t get the nomination for president, so that cancels out anything he has to say. And Al Gore is fat…you know the drill.

  2. Yeah, that’s kool-aid logic for you…yeah, DK is bitter so it doesn’t matter that all those people died for lack of a proper, timely FEDERAL response, that so many lost their homes, that the city was left for dead…not to mention the ILLEGAL and IMMORAL war in Iraq – nope, those are just sour grapes from DK…nothing to see here, move along.
WTF-ever! Thank you Dennis!!! I would still vote for you!!!

  3. Re impeachment, just one question: What took Kucinich so long? I thought he’d said a long time ago that he was going to do this. Or am I misremembering?

  4. I love DK.
Pansypoo: we need to keep Katrina/Flood/Rita in the face of Americans. It’s going to be a big piece of ammo to throw at McCain and his ilk.

  6. And even if I were inclined to give him a pass on Katrina and the ensuing 3 months (and I’m **NOT**),
I absolutely can’t forget: Knowing what can happen, he goes back in an repairs the levees with substandard construction (well, if you can categorize wet newspaper as construction), putting the victims in substandard housing (including doing everything he could to block environmental monitoring of the trailers), etc. etc. etc.

  7. I just can’t get enough of this. Thanks Scout Prime! I hung you on da’Ladda.
We should impeach Pelosi for not backing this. I emailed her office and told her to back off (so we should–don’t’cha know–see some action pronto here soon;)
That goes for anyone else who opposes New Orleans for any reason what so ever. It is time to quit playing nice and roll heads with an 8/29 Commission.
While I have no illusions about a successful outcome from these Articles, I want to see it done and maybe we’ll get luck like we did with Nixon–now that was a forkin’icehole corksucker.
    Don’t git me started.
Uh on another note, the heart of the country is getting its ass drownt right now. Corps of Engineer structures are failing in at least 3 states.

  8. OUTSTANDING! Kucinich is one of just a handful of people in Congress I trust. Thanks for finding this and posting it. The world needs to be reminded again and again and again of the failures before, during and after Katrina.
