Shreds of Dignitude

I continue to be amazed at how John McCain’s ever more desperate lust for power–which he pursues like a grumpy old Captain Ahab, hobbling about both figuratively and literally (for those who watched his performance Tuesday night)–manages to make one George W. Bush seem almost reasonable in comparison (that’s one hell of a grading curve–maybe more like a grading abyss.) Let’s see: you’ve gotSarah Palin’s traveling Nuremberg Rally/Cross Burn; yesterday, Team McCain threw Stepford Cindy into the mix (I wonder if they plied her with Percocet and Vicodin)…and, of course, they’re virtually pimping Bill Ayers, to which I say, if they’re that obsessed with the guy, why don’t they forget about the presidency and focus on saving Chicago from…um…a 65-year old former radical turned professor.

Hey–at least he and McCain are roughly the same age. I dunno: maybe they could bare their gums at each other.

I think this sort of cornered-rat desperation on their part truly speaks volumes. If they want to discuss “character,” then yes, let’s talk character: their actions demonstrate quite clearly that John McCain will say or do ANYTHING to get elected, and that Sarah Palin is about as “Christian” as your average rattlesnake. In that respect, maybe they are different from you and me: they have absolutely no shame whatsoever.

  1. “Hey–at least he and McCain are roughly the same age. I dunno: maybe they could bare their gums at each other.”
Good thing we don’t engage in ageism – that would be as bad as the racism from the otherside. \snark\

  2. Why — in this game of character-by-association — do the Republicans and conservatives slide by without stain from their association with (among others) David Horowitz? Why is it just fine, thank you, to pal around with a former Black Panther advisor?
Why is it acceptable to give Oliver North newspaper space, to pretend that he is a credible conservative columnist with his history as a fifth columnist?

  3. anonymous, the age IS a factor when McPOW won’t release his full med records and has been having more and more uncoordinated verbal issues of late.
If he was just a spry 82 year old with a squeaky clean bill of health and an edgy manner, sure, it could be construed as “pickin’ on teh old dood” – but when he spouts off w/ “that one” and “my fellow prisoners” et al…it’s not cute, it’s indicative of aphasia which can be a symptom of a stroke or other things. If Obama were to make misstatements like that and wander confused about the floor – even at his young age (presidentially speaking) I would want to know what was up.

  4. Honestly, I would love to Ayers sue McPalin and Friends for libel and slander.
He hasn’t been convicted of anything, he isn’t still wanted for anything, but these people have branded him a terrorist and talk like he’s currently planning to bomb the Pentagon.
Didn’t there used to be laws against that?

  5. I’m inclined towards the same Dorothy, although from a slightly different perspective: point out that if Ayers is such a horrible “terrorist,” then why don’t they call for his immediate arrest and indictment?
And if they’re going to condemn Ayers, why don’t they also condemn with equal vigor some contemporary domestic terrorists who were far worse…like the Klan, who weren’t exactly playing with cap guns.

  6. Your scurrilous slander of rattlesnakes is an insult to honest reptiles everywhere.

Because — say it with me, kids — IOKIYAR.
That said, if Ayres is fair game, so are G. Gordon Liddy, Fred Malek, and that whackjob preacher who was so over the edge that whackjob preacher William Donohue called him a whackjob (or words to that effect).

  7. On the very slight ageism commentary above: I’m about to become a co-ageist with the unrepentant Ayers, and I’m as worried about the possibility of McCain (1) getting elected, (2) being mentally, psychologically and/or physically unfit to be president, and (3) Palin taking over the Oval Office, as anybody could be.
I still gotta admit to not liking being glancingly characterized as one of a group that’s weak and incapable (or toothless, if you like) SOLELY because of something I can’t help.
There are lots of non-policy concerns about McCain – that some physical infirmity gets him and we and the world get the Brass-Paired (h/t to Christiane Amanpour for that description of Palin) Winking Godly Militia Lover in the big chair in consequence; that McCain remains physically OK but his mental acuity goes downhill, with maybe the same result; or that his psychological state is or becomes dangerous, at least partly a result of unresolved PTSD from being imprisoned and tortured for years.
Of these, the first could possibly be age-related (anybody can get sick), the second probably, the third not at all.

  8. Apologies if you felt offended, but I don’t consider my remark about McCain and Ayers ageist. It was made to point out the inanity of a specific individual–McCain–making a pretty ludicrous accusation about actions that occurred some 40 years ago.
On the flip side, Ayers, to his credit, is staying out of the spotlight right now…but back in the day, his decisions reflect a certain arrogance that doesn’t speak all that well of him (the pipe bombs McCain and Palin screech about were pretty puny, but the idea of using violence against a nuclear-armed nation is at best arrogant, if not insane. Additionally, the Fort Dix bomb that instead killed three W.U. members in NYC was an awful idea.) But I digress…
If anything, maybe I was a little unfair to Bill Ayers–I have no idea as to his specific physical condition, and I probably would not use the same metaphor regarding Joe Biden, whom I believe is the same age. However, watching McCain play the cultural warfare card really does make me quite angry–angry enough to not be real concerned about hitting close to the belt, and maybe a little below it.
Finally: it’s not like I’m particularly young–I’m 43…and am quite aware of the fact that I’m NOT 25, or even 30…
