Am I the only one to realize that this was a likely outcome right from the first report of the explosion? I find it difficult to believe that I am, so why didn’t the government start surrounding the area with a containment boom immediately? Why such a long wait as the area involved grew exponentially?

AP had report yesterday that in the first few days, BP was in charge and the govt watching. BP released the lower estimates and told the govt that everything was under control.
Then, of course, what the govt was seeing that the BP estimates were patently off, the govt took a higher level of action.
