“Racist” Email Flap Blows Up Virginia Beach GOP

Virginia Beach is the biggest city in Virginia, and the hometown of the state’s current Republican Governor, Bob McDonnell. Now it’s also home to the latest example of a racist email forward destroying a prominent conservative’s political credibility and possibly career.
As the progressive Blue Virgina blog reported Monday — and I independently confirmed from one of the recipients Tuesday — Virginia Beach Republican Party chair Dave Bartholomew forwarded a racist email comparing African Americans to dogs. The email, subject line “my, dog,” consists of a racist parable about African Americans and welfare. In the first 24 hours since the email came to light, Democrats condemned Bartholomew and he resigned his position with the Republican Party.

Well, we’re off to a pretty good start., Intolerant Of Reason – you managed to get your own initial post comment removed, One can only guess.
“In the first 24 hours since the email came to light, Democrats condemned Bartholomew and he resigned his position with the Republican Party.”
NOTE: the above ONLY happens when it is a member of the Republican Party.
This thread has no home here.
What do you mean? This is a Republican being forced to resign by screeching pc-obsessed liberals; if it’s not on-topic here, it’s not on-topic anywhere!
(or do you mean I’ve put this in the wrong topic/category/keyword? If so, apologies)
HA…I sent that joke to a few people yesterday…SOME people need more to do with their time …or as my Mother would say…”If the shoe fits, wear it”
The joke “could” be considered racist, if you really wanted it to be racist.
Many peoplewill consider it racist, and not just liberals. The guy who emailed it is a fool, and he’s just done his little bit to help a Democrat in this election.
And on the local news it was reported that Bartholomew forwarded this e-mail with the joke back in MARCH. Yes, March. So why is this coming to light just now, two weeks before the election?
Is this supposed to be the local “October surprise” from the Dems? Just goes to show to what levels the libs will stoop.
Also, read the joke. The truth hurts, doesn’t it?
I just got this email from a good friend who has the same kind of dog I own. Her dogs are beyond spoiled and pretty much live the life described in the joke.
See?? It’s really a joke abuotdogs who are black, unemployed, lazy, and don’t know who their fathers are!
He saw it on the LOLdawgs site.
There is NOTHING racist about this email if it’s the one I got. I’d post it, but don’t want this removed due to hairtrigger nerves.
For ANYONE to equate this cute slap at democrats with an attack on black Americans is ludicrous in the extreme.
I found the email in question.
Remove one word, “black”, and all it is is a litany and a mockery of your typical democrat dependent voter’s social profligacies.
A snow tire doesn’t sing when you put chains on it.
They think it’s whale shit.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes’ second-biggest campaign expense is . . . Dan Maes and his family.
The Evergreen businessman, who sold his credit-reporting company last year and has been running for office full time since March 2009, has been reimbursed $71,658 from his campaign. His daughter Jordan, his executive aide, has been paid $14,101 for work and some expenses, according to a Denver Post analysis.
The total is nearly 30 percent of the $304,000 Maes has raised. His top expense is advertising, which totals $113,338.
The amount of Dan Maes’ expenses, which include mileage, travel, phone, food and drinks for fundraisers, “misc expenses,” subscriptions, parking and trips to Wal-Mart, may be unprecedented, said the Colorado secretary of state’s office.
Additionally, some of the expenses were months out of date when reimbursement was requested. For instance, on his May 2010 report, he listed a reimbursement for $3,400 spent on Feb. 19, 2010. The money was for: $495 for a facility rental eight months earlier, in June 2009; $88.45 for thank-you cards; 2009 mileage with no miles listed; $158 for signs from 2009; and $325.60 in postage.
Maes said the campaign doesn’t have a credit card because it’s a “cash and carry” operation. Although he said he could not comment on specific reimbursements, he said generally most of the money was for mileage.
“Every once in a while we might have left a wallet home and had to use a personal check or cash,” Maes said.
Maes paid a record $17,500 fine in August for campaign-finance violations, which included improperly recording mileage costs.
In September, Maes was reimbursed $6,879 for mileage incurred by himself, his wife and his daughter.
Maes raised $22,000 from Sept. 30 to Oct. 13, bringing his total to $304,000. His second-largest campaign expense is advertising ($83,919) followed by consulting fees ($42,903), which include $10,000 in legal fees stemming from the campaign-finance violations. He has also spent $4,070 on food, $3,903 on travel and $15,396 on “unknown” and “miscellaneous” expenses.
American Constitution Party candidate Tom Tancredo raked in $220,000 during that same period, bringing his total to $682,000. He has reimbursed himself $3,822 for advertising, office equipment and travel. His top expenses overall: $440,849 on advertising, $79,656 on fundraising and $32,349 on consultants.
The unfortunate thing is that this crap surfaced after it was too late for the GOP to get Maes’ name off the ballot. As a result, there’s a good chance that the 2010 Colorado ballot will have the Democratic Party and the Constitution Party in the two top slots, and the Republican Party mixed in somewhere down below with the Libertarian Party and the Green Party and the Socialist Workers’ Party and the Rent Is Too Damn High Party and the rest.
Maes keeps saying he will stay in the race. The Republican party will be a minor party if he gets less than 10% vote, which is very likely.
this race makes me want to frickin cry
it was a prime GOP pickup until this Tea Party nitwit won the nomination. Now we will not get the maximum return from this year’s “wave” election. The Tea Party endorsements had better go to better candidates in the future not just people who are “outsiders”. sometimes there is a reason these guys are left outside

GOP ad casting call: ‘hicky’ W.Va. look
By: Mike Allen
October 7, 2010 04:27 AM EDT
A Republican ad that shows a couple of regular-looking guys commiserating in a diner aboutWest Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin (D) turns out to have been shot with actors, from a script, in Philadelphia.
But not just any actors: “We are going for a ‘Hicky’ Blue Collar look,” read the casting call for the ad, being aired by the National Republican Senatorial Committee. “These characters are from West Virginia so think coal miner/trucker looks.”
“Clothing Suggestions” included jeans, work boots, flannel shirt, denim shirt, “Dickie’s type jacket with t-shirt underneath,” down-filled vest, “John Deer [sic] hats (not brand new, preferably beat up),” “trucker hats (not brand new, preferably beat up).”
TheNRSC began airing the ad this week in the West Virginia Senate race, in which Manchin is facing a sudden scare from Republican businessman John Raese (pronounced “racy”) in the contest to replace the late Sen. Robert Byrd.
I bopped over to FR and searched on “Hicky”.
Nothing.
I did a search for “casting”
Nada.
Imagine that.

Atlantic: Ohio GOP Candidate for Congress Dresses as Nazi

Rich Iott, the Tea Party-supported GOP nominee for Congress in Ohio’s 9th District, is part of a group that likes to don German Waffen SS uniforms and participate Nazi re-enactments, Atlantic journalist Josh Green revealed on Real Time with Bill Maher.
The group, called Wiking, acts out exploits from the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking, an actual Nazi division, which fought on the Eastern Front during World War II .
Iott, who confirms his involvement with the group, denies any belief in the principles of Nazism.
“It’s purely historical interest in World War II,” he told the Atlantic.
Iott can’t remember when he joined the group, although his name appears on a group roster from 2003. He says he participated in the group with his son “as a father-son bonding thing.”
While Iott neglects to address Jewish voters he might have offended, he does address veterans in an e-mail to the Atlantic: “Never, in any of my reenacting of military history, have I meant any disrespect to anyone who served in our military or anyone who has been affected by the tragedy of war. In fact, I have immense respect for veterans who served our country valiantly, and my respect of the military and our veterans is one of the reasons I have actively studied military history throughout my life.”
So a guy dressed as a Nazi and a woman dressed as a witch
enter a room at a Tea Party endorsement rally!
What a bozo. Next! Try the renaissance faire
New anthem for the Tea Party in Ohio?
http://www.worldmilitaria.com/newsite/Media/HorstWesselLied.mp3
Idiots!
And? So what?
Mel Brooks dresses as a Nazi in several of his movies (The Producers, To Be or Not to Be).
When you play Axis and Allies, somebody’s got to be “Axis.”
And people who dress as Confederate soldiers for CW re-enactments MUST be pro-slavery racists!
My grandfather said that many of the “german” soldiers he encountered weren’t even german. Many were simply conscripted locals who had no choice.
This is pathetic. Re-enactments are about the best way there is to really understand history.
In reading this thread it is disheartening to see how many are willing to jump because the left says to. The right has become filled with many pathetic easily manipulated individuals. It is easy to see why the right has very few real leaders.
Short sighted morons…
Agreed. The caterwauling on this is disappointing.
So, they were recreating the Second World War, dressed as Germans and allies.
It’s kind of like when we were kids and played cowboys and Indians.
Let’s talk facts:
(1) If a voter sees a candidate dressed up in a Nazi uniform, he will not wait for an explanation or an excuse. He will move on in 90% of cases. That’s reality.
(2) Most people think that reenactors are weird. This is because so many of them are. I am not a reenactor, but I am a Friend of the National Military Park at Gettysburg and I know hundreds of reenactors. They’re a lovable but eccentric bunch.
(3) This reenactment group is far more sinister than the usual harmless reenactment group. Iott’s group specializes in reenacting warfare on the Russian front by dressing as members of the SS. Most American WWII reenactors reenact engagements in which American troops were involved, like the Bulge. The bad guys normally dress in German Army uniforms, not SS uniforms with elaborate Nazi insignia. Iott’s group calls itself “Wiking” the name of an SS unit and they reenact engagements in which no US troops were involved. Reenactors do not name their groups after the people they perceive as bad guys, but the people that they perceive as good guys. The more that is learned about this group, the more disturbing the details will be.
Besides living 140 years ago, last I checked, the Confederates never perpetrated the purposeful extermination of some 20,0000,000 civilians, as the Nazis did just 65 years ago.
This is seriously unacceptable…how stupid and insensitive can you get?
For crying out loud, Prince Andrew—in his 20s(?)—of the UK got into trouble for wearing a Nazi uniform to a COSTUME PARTY, but regularly re-enacting them? Do they have Holocaust-roundup re-enactments too?
This guy Rich Iott needs to get dumped ASAP, if for nothing else than a complete lack of judgement. Iott sounds a heck of a lot like idiot.
Dan rather and Fake but accurate documents?
The Atlantic , that allows crazy Andrew Sullivan to post crazy Trig conspiracy stories .
Bill Maher, Need I say MORE?
This October surprise by three FARRRRRR Left wing sources smells to high heaven !
Why do posters hear actually believe and promote
Obama front groups as reliable sources????
What did the Alabama sherriff call the DOG who had been shot 15 times?
Worst case of suicide he had ever seen.
Okay, first, that’s a joke about the sheriff, not about the “dog.” Second, somebody really thought it was okay to send that around? Third, it isn’t FUNNY.
If you’re going to offend, you have to be original and hilarious. You can’t just be a dick. So many comedians do not get this, and every one of them who makes money at it convinces legions of drooling fratboys that they, too, can spout some racist, sexist, stupid-ass shit and be considered “edgy.” Ugh.
A.
Dumb Question:
Does the first story mean that Faux News doesn’t get upset when jokes are circulated about conservatives??
And Tommy, as much as I love the truth behind your story about picking up Alex, I so much want you to stick around. So please don’t push the limit like that.
