  1. Straus has juice, he’s a badass and earned a lot of capital during the last Lege and in politics in Texas it’s always more acceptable to initiate an old-style religious smear than to do something that indicates your enemy is powerful and effective.
Doesn’t excuse them or mean that they aren’t anti-Semitic assholes. Just trying to clarify: they’re scared shitless anti-Semitic assholes.

  2. Essentially, he’s a bit too much Judeo-Christian and too little Christo-Judean for them.

  3. Thanks for the insight, virgotex; given the state of the Republican both in general and in Texas, I figured Straus probably wasn’t, oh, what’s the right term, an innocent little lamb or whatever you want to say…
But the up-front anti-Semitism really struck me, particularly given how the expression “Judeo-Christian” has been adopted by the far right in recent years. I guess that only extends to supporting Israel…

  4. I think I’ve lost the ability to be “really struck” by anything vile out of the denizens of the Texas Lege. It’s also difficult right now to differentiate between the substantive and the pre-session wanking brinksmanship horseshit being thrown around. The signal to noise ratio is, well it’s noisy

  5. I guess that only extends to supporting Israel…
Yeah, for a definition of “supporting Israel” that means ensuring the government over there buys lots of war toys from the companies those Republicans own, and doing quite a lot toward ensuring that people like my friends over there get killed in some senselesspitzutz or other…
