Tweet of the day: Comedy Icon Edition

It comes from the greatAlbert Brookswho was born Albert Einstein and also has distinctive hair:

As a man ages watching the ball drop on New Years takes on a whole different meaning.

Brooks has been in a bit of a career slump as a writer-director but hisReal Life, Modern Romance, Lost In America, Defending Your Life andMother are classics.

Here’s a clip featuring Albert and Debbie Reynolds as the title character inMother.Dr A and I call this the “protective ice” scene.

  1. brooks is in a new movie called “drive.” looks pretty interesting. he plays a contract killer.

  2. OMG I loveLost In America andDefending Your Life, two amazing movies. But did you see him inDrive? He should get an Oscar nomination for that, he was amazing in it. I’ve never seen him play a serious role before.

  3. His comedy albums “Comedy Minus One” and “A Star Is Bought” have some great bits on them.

  4. Hehehe. Yep, my mom freezes everything too, after my dad buys it. And I’m a little finicky. I just never realized there was a name for the “protective ice”. 😛

  5. Lost In America hands in there stubbornly, after all these years, as one of my very favorite movies. Jeez, the browbeating he gives that wife of his over her failure to understand the nest egg principle after she blows all their money at the roulette wheel…fucking comedy gold! Also:
David (Brooks): As the boldest experiment in advertising history, you give us our money back.
Casino manager: I beg your pardon?
