Good morning, everyone – time to suit up and hit the iso chamber again and pry the tops of some reeking drums of freepitude. We’d probably better hurry, as the EPA has been sniffing around here lately, and I’m not exactly sure our permits are good for the kind of messes we’ve been uncovering of late.
I know you’ve all been curious how the Biden / Ryan debate live thread came out, so let’s get right to it.
Another miserable FR Live Thread failure.

Yet again, FR fails the big LIVE THREAD test.
How does what is supposed to be the premiere conservative site on the ‘net continue to fail?
I
would have expanded on this except it took forever to get this simple
post through the muck and molasses that we have to wade thru on night’s(sic)
like this

We need to donate more so they can expand the server farm and get a fatter pipe.

I thought that this was what the last freepathon was for. (they’re already running another one) What’s that definition of insanity again?

FR is always SO slow on ‘big nights’ that I wonder about a DOS attack..
Nice if JR would comment on what the deal is.

Yeah – that’s it. This rinky-dink site with its 15-year-old script and crappy cheap-ass server farm just happens to come under DOS attacks when too many people try to post at the same time.

…Zot. It’s ok – you can say it.
Why zot this? Because Jim Rob don’t like it when the rubes catch on that all their money is going to keep him in The Olive Garden, and very little of it on gear and upkeep.
What’s the Point of Donating If We Can’t Access This Site at Peak Times?

I have to ask this very seriously, do you know that this site has
been completely unusable to perhaps thousands and thousands of others
during either the first Presidential or Vice-Presidential debate and for
an hour or so after their respective conclusions?
This has never
happened in previous election cycles during debates, election night
results or during large breaking news events. Slow? Yes. Unusable, no.
I’ve
had multiple tabs opened for the debates this year and the FR one just
wheel spin, wheel spin, wheel spin… blank page, no progress bar moving
on the address bar. It’s just the internet equivalent of dead air for
hours.
If you’re getting this during a VP debate I fully expect this site to be dead and inaccessible from 6PM-4AM election night.
Update us would you? What’s going on?

I completely agree. This is ridiculous! I know it’s not politically
correct to say this around here, but at what point does the equipment
for this site get upgraded, or replaced?
I’ve already purposed that I won’t even waste my time coming here for the next presidential debate.

Being an IT professional, I would suggest that he run it in the
cloud, that way it scales, is reliable, and it can add servers
dynamically…I do this all the time for customers who have much bigger
problems…
Amazon, Azure, etc.

Being an IT professional myself, I would suggest that cloud computing is just another crappy business model designed to squeeze more money out of you for the same service, with the added benefit of less security and a round-robin of finger-pointing when the shit breaks down.
Just buy another fucking hampster and be done with it.
Just fucking shoot me.
I think I’d be looking forward to the freepers’ post-Election Day butthurt more if I wasn’t a bit worried that they were going to start stocking up on fuel oil and fertilizer…
They don’t need to, Scott S. They already have ALL the gunz, ALL the gutz, and ALL the God on their righteous side. With the added bonus of owners with money. Fuel oil and fertilizer is old school and the vast majority of them would only wind up blowing themselves and their families to glory.
Seriously, I’ve heard them chatting over coffee at the local cafe in the mornings. They’re primed for the war to end all wars and save this blessed country from…something, probably brown or black. And their wimminz…they’re all about protecting their wiminz. I’m not exagerating. I live in a rural, Wisconsin community and I hear these sentiments a lot. Most of them are over forty, struggling in agriculture, drowning in bills, decently educated but utterly immersed in the FOX bubble, and without exception, conservative, evangelical Christians of various flavors.
You’d think, with that much bravado, there would be more than 15 of them. I’m in the Rod and Gun Club with all of them, and it still hasn’t sunk in that liberals can shoot bang-bangs too.
I honestly and in all truthfulness don’t understand: how do they ignore that the same machine that ran Bush II is the same machine running Romney’s campaign and platform?
They’re close enough to talk about the GOP-elite running the show. They consider Bush II as kryptonite. But they never quite seem to make the jump to the effects of Citizen’s United allowing KKKarl Rove et al to stay in the background while controlling the cash and thus ultimately controlling them like the puppetmaster in the background and in full control of the marionettes.
Another Freeperthon? The other one hasn’t finished yet. Have the Freepers managed to warp the fabric of space and time as to disturb the continuum?
RE: DOS Attack, fairly easy for them to pull their logs and see if there is any evidence. Of course, why waste a good conspiracy theory?
Frankly, like so many recent conspiracy theories, they seem so counterproductive. The Freepers make the reich wing look bad. So why would the left want to DOS them? I look on the Freepers like the lady who told police that they couldn’t arrest her because she is a repub (ADMITTEDLY, this is from the examiner – putting name of source in lower case intentional. Caveat Emptor, or what would the Latin be for let the reader beware… )http://www.examiner.com/article/drunk-woman-attempts-to-avoid-arrest-by-claiming-she-is-a-republican?cid=db_articles
Yet the easy answer is to look and see that each page is dynamically created from their database (not too unusual for a low volume server). And just picturing what the traffic increase must have been for FR during a political event, …
Funny how the Crack Van seems to manage to careen down the highway just fine during a preznitial debate, despite everyone being drunk and in the back singing, with numerous folks dangling from the doors and windows frightening the horses and children, without constant “freepathons.”
One of the things that domoed Romney was the perception of his being smug and arrogant. I heard this repeated by fellow republicans who dont like the choices and have found both he and McCain personality wise to be irritating at best.
erin, these are exactly as i had in my head when we were shotiong. they turned out perfectly. i love love love the relaxed lifestyle sessions and this family were perfect models for it. baby d is a charmer. my favorite is the one of him with arms stretched out on his blanket ready to take on the world. my second favorite is the set of mom and dad on the couch with him asleep taken from the side and from above. those are so peaceful and colorful at the same time. a good balance of colors and calmness. lovely work! we need more of these types of models and sessions!lesli
Erin, you know how much I love these! Thank you for sharing your wofdernul talent to further decorate my pink pastel home. They turned out so perfectly. Good luck this week as you welcome your new little one.
To those who are enamored with the free marekt approach to health care access I say why not go all the way then? Let me posit the following scenario: The year is 2010, in response to not very widespread complaints that some people in America might actually be getting something for nothing, Congress springs into action. At the end of a grueling session, and in a remarkable display of bipartisanship, they emerge with the Healthcare Ultimate Responsibility Law (HURL). The legislation rescinds the long existing federal mandate that hospitals provide free care to those in need, and dismantles Medicare. It also abolishes all private health insurance, as some policy holders have been consuming a disproportionate amount of medical care in excess of what their premiums would have covered. Prior to leaving for his weekly salon session / hunting trip, President Britt Momley signs the bill into law, pronouncing it “…the final solution to the free rider problem…” Vice President Johann Moneygrubber and Secretary of Wealth and Inhumane Disservices Don Clydesdale look on in awe. Finally, free marekt forces will determine the delivery of health services. Anyone wishing to see a doctor will be required to have cash on the barrelhead. Everyone’s net worth can be immediately ascertained by reading the RFID chip embedded at the base of their necks. Fools desperate enough to show up on the steps of medical institutions seeking care with no means to pay are strapped to gurneys in five point restraints and promptly, but cheaply, euthanized. Since these freeloaders would obviously have no means to pay for burial services, their useful tissues and organs are harvested to provide spare parts for the paying customers and luminaries like Paris Hilton and former Vice President Dick Cheney. The remainder of the body is burned on the premises to provide heat for the hot tubs on the liposuction unit. Many panicked Americans seeking treatment flee to the Canadian and Mexican borders only to be turned back by immigration authorities. They die in droves, providing the few remaining U.S. medical schools with a steady stream of anatomical specimens. There is not much need for doctors, with such a limited patient pool, the U.S. actually becomes the world’s largest exporter of trained physicians, and the nursing shortage that loomed so large in the early part of the decade has been resolved overnight. Surplus cadavers are collected by companies BFI and Waste Management, Inc, who in true entrepreneurial spirit have expanded their recycling operations to include corpses. No sense in burying the wretches, that’s just a waste of prime real estate! Instead, bodies are trucked off to mass incinerators where they provide the fuel to run industry. At last, a cheap source of renewable energy. Yes, it’s a new day in America, and no one is on the public dole!
