Tom Brokaw, the Country Turns its Lonely Eyes to You

This was just a bridge too far:

Veteran newsman Tom Brokaw said that the White House Correspondents’ Dinner officially jumped the shark when troubled actress Lindsay Lohan attended the annual event.

“The breaking point for me was Lindsay Lohan,” Brokaw toldPolitico in a story published Friday. “She became a big star at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Give me a break.”

Lohan was a guest of Fox News Channel’s Greta Van Susteren at the 2012 dinner.

Really? Lindsay Lohan. That was too much for you? Not the presidents joking about drone attacks or weapons of mass destruction, not all of you acting like you deserved some kind of cookie for showing up and pointing a camera or a recorder in the president’s direction? It was Lindsay Lohan.

I can see that, actually. For like 40 years our capitol press has only been able to get het up about shit that matters not at all. I can see where an actress with a visible drug problem (as opposed to probably 2/3 of the audience’s who-knows-what issues) who’s easy to make fun of because she has no power whatsoever compared to Oh So Sober and Serious You is just the absolute height of what you consider gauche.

But hey, maybe it’s not all about the actress:

Following last year’s event, the former anchor of NBC Nightly News criticized the soiree, saying it “separates the press from the people that they’re supposed to serve, symbolically.”

It must have hurt you to be there in years past:

You know what, seriously, the bitching about this event gets worse every year. I mean, go or don’t go, but don’t talk about how you’re really too good to go and how, even though you’ve been sucking down free drinks for years, it’s getting old and tired and it’s not the cool party anymore and now it’s just actresses you don’t like. It’s not designed to change anything, it’s just designed to point out how superior you are. To Lindsay Lohan. Because that’s hard to do these days, poor kid.

A.

  1. So looking under the table for the weapons of mass destruction were no problem but the lower class of celebrity women is just too much for poor classy Tom? Asshat.
