A quick grab-bag this time kiddies – I’ve been one-eyed (Yarrrr!) the latter part of the week, so this will be a short one. Speaking of which, I’d like to apologise tp the other authors for taking up so much FD real estate on the before-the-fold bits, but the lead thread sometimes has a long build-up.

If no one else, WND, the New York Post, and now Fox News have started paying serious attention to an urban pastime known as “the knockout game” or occasionally as “polar bear hunting,” a phenomenon that has caused at least seven deaths and countless serious injuries.
The “polar bear” refers to the invariably white or at least non-black victim of a hunt by a young black male, usually one of a pack of the same. The hunters tend to prey on those who seem vulnerable. This includes old people, women, children, and, most often, clueless male liberals– like the Pittsburgh teacher seen in this video — who have trained themselves not to “profile” young black men even when they approach with malice in their eyes.
White urbanites remain clueless because the mainstream media have chosen not to clue them in. Even when local TV stations cover the incidents, as in the Pittsburgh assault above, they are careful to avoid even hinting at a racial motive.
Said former CBS News correspondent Bernard Goldberg, “The white liberals in the media at places that aren’t covering this are saying, ‘You know what? We don’t want to give any ammo to those white racist conservatives out there (because they equate conservatism with racism anyway), so let’s just make believe this isn’t happening.’ How despicable.”(continued)

Sounds reasonable.
I mean, except for the “roaming bands of black youths” thing, and the fact that Trayvon was stalked by Zimmerman and not the other way around, the real killing and the made-up “knockout game” (see: “wilding”) are identical!

Did the shutdown do lasting damage to the Republican brand?A new poll from CNN shows some short-term damage, at least, in public perception of the party in reference to control of the House. For the first time since winning the majority in 2010, CNN’s polling shows a majority who disapprove of it, and more than 60% want John Boehner out as Speaker:
Just more than half the public says that it’s bad for the country that the GOP controls the House of Representatives, according to a new national poll conducted after the end of the partial government shutdown.
And the CNN/ORC International survey also indicates that more than six in 10 Americans say that Speaker of the House John Boehner should be replaced.
The poll was conducted Friday through Sunday, just after the end of the 16-day partial federal government shutdown that was caused in part by a push by House conservatives to try and dismantle the health care law, which is President Barack Obama’s signature domestic achievement.
According to the survey, 54% say it’s a bad thing that the GOP controls the House, up 11 points from last December, soon after the 2012 elections when the Republicans kept control of the chamber. Only 38% say it’s a good thing the GOP controls the House, a 13-point dive from the end of last year.
Because the deal only includes minor concessions, the Beltway consensus is that it represents a resounding defeat for Republicans, who “surrendered” their original demands to defund or delay Obamacare. In the skirmish of opinion polls, that may be true, for now. But in the war of ideas, the Senate deal is but a stalemate, one made almost entirely on conservative terms. The GOP now goes into budget talks with sequestration as the new baseline, primed to demand longer-term cuts in Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. And they still hold the gun of a US default to the nation’s head in the next debt ceiling showdown.
Surrender? Any more “victories” like this and Democrats will end up paying tribute into the GOP’s coffers. …
The GOP may be bearing the brunt of the public’s rage, but anger is also directed at Washington and government generally. Nearly eight in ten say the country is seriously off-track. The Tea Party may be plummeting in public esteem, but it is taking government down with it. There is simply no way to rebuild widely shared prosperity without a government with a clear strategy in the global economy. There is no way to make needed public investments and temper the extreme inequality that threatens our democracy without progressive tax reform. The terms of the Republican “surrender” take us in the wrong direction.
Ahem. The ObamaCare disaster is doing most of the “taking government down with it” work all on its own. The quicker the GOP gets out of the way and allows the public to focus on it, the quicker their poll numbers will rebound, and the faster the big-government project will collapse.

Sarah Palin may be once again dreaming of the White House and a run for the presidency in 2016.
After a long absence from the political arena, Palin appears to be strategically increasing her appearances and speeches while also taking solid aim at President Obama. This has led many political experts to conclude that she is aiming to enter the 2016 presidential race, or at least is trying to test the waters for a potential run.
The rumors kicked up a bit this week when a spokesman for the Rev. Billy Graham announced that Sarah Palin will be a guest for the reverend’s 95th birthday. Graham still carries great political sway, so much in fact that Mitt Romney carved out time to meet with Graham in the final days of the 2012 presidential race in the hopes of earning a public endorsement and assuring conservative voters.
Graham’s birthday celebration is also drawing other big names in the conservative world, including real estate mogul Donald Trump.
Sarah Palin has also taken her political tour to Iowa, one of the most important states for Republican hopefuls. On November 9 Palin is slated to speak at the annual banquet for the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition, an important conservative and evangelical group.
After spending a long stretch away from the spotlight, Palin is also ramping up her political attacks on President Obama in what could be the groundwork for her 2016 platform.
In a Facebook post entitled “Obama’s Debt Default is on His Shoulders While We Shoulder His Impeachable Offenses,” she placed the blame for the debt limit fight solely on Obama’s shoulders.
“Defaulting on our national debt is an impeachable offense, and any attempt by President Obama to unilaterally raise the debt limit without Congress is also an impeachable offense,” Palin wrote.
If Sarah Palin is planning a 2016 presidential run, she will have even more ammunition to boost her resume in the coming weeks. On November 12, three days after her planned speech in Iowa, Palin will be released a book taking on the conservative-friendly topic of the War on Christmas.
Pain promises that in the book — titled Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas — she will “tell you how to fight back against those politically correct Scrooges who seem to hate not just a beautiful holiday, but an entire faith.”
Sarah Palin is still a long way from an official 2016 presidential run, however, and likely wouldn’t declare any intention to run for several months.

I was up in Alaska for 10 days in Sept and didn’t find folks to be very excited about her at all.
Common opinion was she’s a Scottsdale girl now, we like Parnell. Folks in Wasilla: we never see her around anymore.
Maybe I was talking to the wrong people but I heard a lot of negative comments about her leaving her job and then leaving the state.

NO. Just no.
First. She would make a good President but like Hillary in 2008 she just waited too long. She chickened out, her moment in history came in 2012 and she chose to stay on the sidelines.
Secondly, she is personally responsible for giving us 4 more years of Obama. She was the clear choice for conservatives, and she kept flirting with the nomination, doing tours and basically running an unannounced Presidential campaign. This robbed other conservative candidates of media oxygen and allowed Romney to dominate a weak and divided field. Romney gave us Obama. Thanks alot Sarah.
Thirdly her midterm resignation from governorship is inexcusable. She can’t handle Alaska, she will not be able to handle the US.
Lastly, liberals have a point about her being not the sharpest tool in the shed. Her heart is in the right place, she clearly loves America, but she does not have the intellectual heft of someone like Ted Cruz. She cannot go toe to toe with liberal journalists, Cruz can.
Don’t fall for the “flirt and quit” routine that she used to hurt conservatives in 2012. If she wants to run, then she needs to commit early and campaign like she wants to win. Going halfway through the primary season with a smile and “I’m thinking about it” is not going to fly this time.
Or will it? Are her fans so easily fooled twice?

Then you really won’t like this.I’m beginning to think she does this just for money.
Hints that she might run. Everybody donates to her PAC, and then she says she was just funnin’ and walks away with the money until the next Presidential election.
She needs to support Cruz loudly and clearly and early and not split the conservative base with her teasing.

The combination of being unemployed and Christmas approaching has been a bit rough on me emotionally, and I’ve been sinking into apathy on an irregular basis. I knew intellectually that it was coming, but that’s not really a lot of help when it arrives.
Istill have it a lot better than someone who’s not within shouting distance of retirement age, and has no savings.

How could someone talk about “heft” in the GOP field and leave out Christie? What a HUGE omission! That will weigh heavily on their credibility.
