Oh, Chuckles

Krauthammer once again makes it all about Putin’s penis:

Conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer slammed President Obama’s statement on the apparent Russian invasion of Crimea, saying he “could not have issued a more flaccid statement.”

YEAH. He should have whipped it out and demanded Putin suck it. That’s what W would have done!

“The Ukrainians — and I think everybody — are shocked by the weakness of Obama’s statements,” Krauthammer began. “I find it rather staggering . . . What he’s saying is we’re not going to really do anything, and we’re telling the world.”

I’m not sure what Chuck thinks we should do. Threaten to nuke Moscow? Have a proxy war in the Ukraine? Lay siege to Leningrad? For fuck’s sake, the world is not a war movie. Heaven forbid Obama hold off ten seconds before sending in the 82nd Airborne.

Even the commenters at the Daily Caller, who the Freepi think are racist morons, are calling Charles on his bullshit:

Krauthammer went on to say… “bomb the Crimea. This is all because of Benghazi and completely distracts from the IRS non-scandal.”

  1. I’m supposed to care what happens to the Ukraine because they have a right to their own self-determination, etc.
Well, what if Crimea *wants* to go and be part of Russia (which is apparently an actual possibility)? Shouldn’t they have a right to determine that? I realize right now Putin isn’t doing a whole lot of ‘asking’, but if the net results is the same…

  2. Wow. I thought Ted Nugent was an outlier. Turns out he’s really channeling genuine wingnut id.
You know, Survivor the TV show could make a fortune dragging all their sorry asses to the island. Wingnuts and Pundits Edition. The Nuge, Chuckles, David Brooks, MoDo, and god knows who else, stuck with each other…
I don’t know how, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they blew up the entire island…

  3. Krauthammer is old enough to remember that you always give them a way to step back and out when playing global thermonuclear war politics.

  4. Funny how the Crimea is home to a large majority of ethnic Russians, most of whom are just fine with economic and trade relations with Russia over the austerity plans and IMF-imposed privatization schemes of the EU. It’s the West that’s happy with neo-Nazi thugs and other right-wing groups creating an effective putsch that has forced a duly-elected leader from office (ignore for the moment that he’s probably just as corrupt as was the previous leader who’s been sprung from jail).
There’s every reason for Putin to suspect that the lives of ethnic Russians–and Russian naval forces in the Crimea–are in some danger of right-wing violence (not so much different than the situation in Ossetia, it seems).
Let’s not forget that Bush the Elder invaded Panama–a place in which we had quite secure military bases–because one soldier was killed in what increasingly looks like a U.S. false-flag operation to stir unrest and justify invasion, and ended up killing several thousand Panamanians in the hopeless attempt to assassinate Noriega from the air. Protecting American lives and American forces were never really at issue in that invasion.
Chuckles just misses the days when we did what we pleased and thumbed our noses at international opinion. At least Putin has a plausible pretext for sending in forces, something that we usually ignore or lie about.
