Navy Announces USS Gabrielle Giffords

The Navy’s newest ship will be the USS Gabrielle Giffords.
Navy
Secretary Ray Mabus made the announcement at a Pentagon ceremony today,
calling Giffords someone whose name is synonymous with courage.
Former
Rep. Gabby Giffords looked on at the Pentagon as Mabus made the
announcement in a public ceremony. Also in attendance at this
afternoon’s brief ceremony in the Pentagon Courtyard was Roxana Green,
the mother of 9-year-old Christina-Taylor Green.
Christina-Taylor
was among those killed in last year’s deadly shooting rampage in Tucson
that targeted Giffords as she met constituents outside a supermarket.
Roxana Green will be the ship’s sponsor.
Giffords is still
recovering from the gunshot wounds to her head that she suffered during
last January’s shooting incident. She stepped down from Congress two
weeks ago.
The ship named today for her, which has yet to be
built, will be the Navy’s 10th Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), a new kind of
ship designed to bring the Navy fighting power into shallow coastal
areas. The first two ships in this class were called Freedom and
Independence, but the conventional practice since then has been to name
the other ships in the class after a city.
“It’s very appropriate
that LCS 10 be named for someone who has become synonymous with
courage, who has inspired the nation with remarkable resiliency and
showed the possibilities of the human spirit,” said Mabus.
Mabus
said the notion occurred to him that this would be a “fitting tribute”
not only to Giffords but to Navy families because she was a Navy spouse.
Her husband, Mark Kelly, was until recently an astronaut and Navy
pilot.

It’s an awful thing to be shot and it takes a lot of strength to make it through the recovery, but exceptional courage?
We have literally thousands upon thousands of sailors who’ve
undergone catastrophic injuries and illnesses that took years of therapy
to recover that were worse than what Giffords had to deal with.
We used to name our ships in memory of great warriors… now we name them after whoever is popular in Washington.

I have problems finding some items at Walmart, too.
However, Target it BY FAR worse…especially — but now limited to — sale items.
70-80% of the time even normally stocked items are out of stock!!
The service desk will say they will be coming soon — confirm they are
ordered — and then they take forever or they then drop the brand.
This is true in Washington D.C. area and Florida!
So it’s true? What could possibly account for this failure to have stock?
A breakdown in the Just In Time ordering system? Issues with suppliers?Gremlins?

I remember the first Walmart Superstore opening in this area.
Sales associates on roller skates all over the place, getting asked
every few minutes if we needed assistance, Made-in-the USA signs hanging
from the ceiling.
A friend of mine works there part-time and said employees leave
without new employees replacing them, and jobs are nearly at on-call
status. Meanwhile, we are told that the economy is improving as one of
the most immediately affected points of money transfers indicates the
opposite.

No, that’s just convenient thinking. Walmart has been way at low
hours per week for years. My neighbor works there and they give him
sometimes just four hours a day. Price of gas to get to and from work
eats 1/3 a days pay on those days.
Walmart –Third world products were just the start. Now offering third world wages too!

I’m calling BS on this. I shop at Walmart several times a week
(for the prices!) and the help there is always courteous, and there’s
plenty of it. The people at my local Walmart actually seem to like
working there.
You can count on at least one negative story about Walmart every
week. The Democrat newsrooms got their marching orders on that long ago.

Well I work at a Walmart (don’t support unionization) but much of
what this artical (sic) states is true. And it pissed me to all heck when I
can’t help customers because they haven’t hired enough. I do my work.

the help there is always courteous, and there’s plenty of it.
Maybe
some of them could come and work at my Walmart? At the store I shop at,
it isn’t unusual to find only two checkout lanes open and full grocery
carts lined up a half dozen deep with shoppers spending 45 minutes just
waiting in line.
It’s gotten to the point where I’m willing to spend a little more money at the grocery store just so I can get out of there.

return for its investors by advocating for gay marriage. The questioner
also expressed disappointment with the company’s most recent results and
claimed they were partly driven by the boycott Starbucks faced about
the gay marriage issue.

shareholder remained unhappy with the 38% annual return on value the
company provided, “You can sell your shares of Starbucks. It’s a free
country.”

Remember when the CEO of JCPenney went all in and supported gays and
hired Ellen Degeneres? A few months later Penneys was flirting with
bankruptcy.
Correletion – causation – two different things.
I suspect that the CEO of Starbucks may be having some big
decisions to make and his company is not doing that well. This is the
kiss of death to go all in for a segment of the population that is no
more than 2% and ignore the 98%. Starbucks may announce some big
downsizing in the near future as the shareholder in this annual meeting
expressed disappointment at the company’s performance.

They don’t want a smaller government actually. Most who say that are too fucking stupid to understand what it means. Either that or they are so unprincipled that smaller government takes a back seat to fucking over gays, blacks, liberals, women, children, the adolescent, those in their 20s, those in their 30s, the poor, the educated, the uneducated, the unhealthy, the healthy, anyone else that isn’t specifically them. Modern conservatism is mostly about being a vindictive asshole while screaming “I’M THE VICTIMIST VICTIM OF SOCIETY EVER. ALSO JESUS AND RONALD REAGAN!”
I can’t figure out the resistance to dropping social issues.
‘Smaller government’ would seem to logically include not legislating social issues.
