Ted Cruz to announce presidential bid Monday
Houston Chronicle ^ | March 21, 2015 11:34pm | Theodore Schleifer

Sen. Ted Cruz plans to announce Monday that he will run for president of the United States, accelerating his already rapid three-year rise from a tea party insurgent in Texas into a divisive political force in Washington.

Cruz will launch a presidential bid outright rather than form an exploratory committee, said senior advisers with direct knowledge of his plans, who spoke on condition of anonymity because an official announcement had not been made yet. They say he is done exploring and is now ready to become the first Republican presidential candidate. …

Well, it’s definitely unanimous support for Teddy Boy over at Freeperville. I can already hear the rustle of checkbooks being pulled out, and see the furrowed brows as Freepers try to decide which bill to not pay this month, or how they can hide this from their wives…

I’d rather he be a king maker.

Reagan wasn’t a first time senator and had already just missed the nomination in 1976.

He was ready…and so was the country.

Cruz is too young and inexperienced. He can wait 4-8 years.

Jeffrey Toobin: Ted Cruz ‘Could Not Be Farther’ from Sarah Palin

Mediaite ^ | March 25, 2015 | Matt Wilstein Posted on 3‎/‎25‎/‎2015‎ ‎9‎:‎39‎:‎18‎ ‎PM by 2ndDivisionVet

Last June, CNN’s senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin profiled Ted Cruz for The New Yorker under the headline “The Absolutist.” Now that Cruz has made his 2016 presidential campaign official, Toobin discussed the senator/candidate at length with Fresh Air’s Terry Gross on Wednesday’s show.

Towards the end of their conversation, Toobin discussed what it was like to spend time with Cruz last year for a series of interviews. “Well, first of all, he’s just a very smart guy,” Toobin said, calling the former Supreme Court clerk a “law nerd” at heart. Toobin also called Cruz a “very polished speaker,” noting, “This is someone who is an extremely good political communicator. Now, obviously, you have to be receptive to his message which is extremely conservative.”

Toobin even defended Cruz from those — like Morning Joe’s Donny Deutsch — who have equated Cruz with someone like Sarah Palin.

“One of the things that I find frankly offensive when I hear discussions of Ted Cruz — they say, oh, he’s just Sarah Palin,” Toobin said. “You know, he could not be farther from Sarah Palin. This is someone who has a completely thought-out political philosophy. And you can agree with it or disagree with it, but it holds together.”

But the interview wasn’t all praise for the first official 2016 GOP candidate. At the same time, Toobin pointed out how “unpopular” Cruz has become in his own party, as evidenced just this week by Rep. Peter King (R-NY) suggesting he might jump off a bridge if Cruz becomes the nominee.

Earlier, Toobin criticized Cruz for suggesting the abolition of the IRS. “That strikes me as a false note in what otherwise I think is a fairly comprehensive and comprehensible worldview on the part of Cruz,” he said. “You know, when I wrote about him in The New Yorker, he was not quite in full presidential campaign mode. And if I can speak simply, he wasn’t saying dumb things like abolish the IRS.”

They’re just against whatever conservatives are for. That pretty much sums up liberals.

Oh, really??

Then later they make up reasons to justify it, and finally tack a label onto it so that they don’t need to repeat the argument. When enough people have forgotten why they opposed it, they may support it and call it a liberal idea.

So we’re talking about Obamacare/Romneycare now?

To: 2ndDivisionVet

I think I already suggested before Ted Cruz announced that the Left will try to hang Sarah Palin around his neck, having in their mind no better way to keep him corralled from breaking out beyond his conservative base.

It is notable to me that even the Left’s Jeffery Twobit laid that to rest. I’m not sure it’s enough, or the end of hearing the Palin comparison, but it is a start.

Cruz was careful not to alienate that IRS point, when he was discussing his support for a simple flat tax, and then, only in the cooler style of a well placed after thought, did he add the words, “ideally we really should abolish the IRS”, and went right back to discussing the need for simplifying the tax rate with no more than a postal card.

Ted Cruz Is Signing Up for Obamacare

Despite being vehemently opposed to Obamacare, Ted Cruz is signing up for insurance under President Obama’s health care law.

The Texas Republican Senator and newly-announced presidential candidate, known for his staunch opposition to the Affordable Care Act, told CNN on Tuesday that he will be joining the millions of Americans enrolled in insurance under the law.

Cruz’s family currently gets employer insurance through his wife, who is taking an unpaid leave…

Media and pundits say Ted Cruz is a hypocrite for complying with federal law.

The Republican senator and 2016 GOP hopeful Ted Cruz revealed in an interview Tuesday that he and his family may soon have to enroll in a health insurance plan under the Affordable Care Act — an action that is unremarkable for a federal employee and in keeping with Obamacare’s requirement that every American buy government-approved insurance or get hit with a punitive tax.

“We’ll be getting new health insurance and we’ll presumably do it through my job with the Senate, and so we’ll be on the federal exchange with millions of others on the federal exchange,” Cruz said in an interview with CNN. Cruz’s family currently gets employer insurance through his wife, who is taking an unpaid leave during his presidential campaign.

Cruz made clear that he will not be getting subsidies and stated his belief that politicians should be made to comply with the laws they impose on citizens. “I believe we should follow the text of every law,” Cruz told CNN’s Dana Bash, “even laws I disagree with.”

But given Cruz’s continuing vocal opposition to Presidents Obama’s health care law, the Texas Republican’s remarks were received by certain media figures as a humorous twist of fate. Many anti-Cruz commentators are delighted to see him pressed into the unwieldy federal insurance exchange system.

“Ted Cruz going on Obamacare. The hypocrisy of these people is incredible! He fought against it until he needed it,” Univision correspondent Daniela Ganoza said on Twitter Wednesday.

The New Republic’s Brian Beutler quipped, “Repealing Obamacare would be bad for millions but good for new enrollee Ted Cruz. That’s not hypocrisy, it’s greed.”

Meanwhile, National Journal’s Ron Fournier went on an extended Twitter rant Wednesday that included theories about what Cruz would likely say should he be offered the top spot at the IRS.

“This is rich: [Ted Cruz] calls #Obamacare lawless but signs up for it,” Fournier tweeted, adding later, “Breaking: [Barack Obama] nominates [Ted Cruz] to head the #IRS. Cruz accepts. ‘Guy’s gotta work.'” (The maverick lawmaker advocates abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, though he continues to pay income tax.)

The mirth spilled over to newsrooms, with headlines and reports noting the supposed irony of Cruz considering enrolling in Obamacare.

U.S. News & World Report published an op-ed titled “Critic and customer? Ted Cruz may be signing up for Obamacare.”

The Washington Post followed with a headline of its own that read, “Now Ted Cruz says he’s probably signing up for Obamacare, and he’s definitely still trying to kill it.”

MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts characterized the Cruz news as a “flip-flop.”

Previously, Cruz’s family had access to health benefits through his wife, Heidi Cruz, a managing director at Goldman Sach’s Houston office. Following the senator’s announcement Monday that he will compete in 2016 GOP Republican presidential primaries, Heidi Cruz has gone on unpaid leave, meaning the family no longer has access to the firm’s health benefits.

(snip)

Cruz said in his interview that he won’t use the exemption carved out for lawmakers.

“I strongly oppose the exemption that President Obama illegally put in place for members of Congress because (Senate Minority Leader) Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats didn’t want to be under the same rules as the American people,” Cruz said. “I believe we should follow the text of the law.”

Actually, it is a rather smart action on Ted’s part. When he speaks about Obamacare – from now on he will be speaking from personal experience.

What does that say about a man who could skirt the issue if he wanted to in order to make it easier on himself, but instead decides to experience it like one of us?

Who is going to be more believable? Joe B.S. Dummycrat who has his 75% paid subsidy from Obama or Ted who is willingly going to experience the full brunt of Obama’s Law?

At least you guys have FOX on your side. Right?
To: E. Pluribus Unum

It really makes no difference which path he takes. They’ll pick on him because they are desperate to discredit him. The fact that they have no ammo, won’t deter them. They’ll mock him if he sneezes. What they don’t realize is that they are using his name so often that people are memorizing it.

People memorized Benedict Arnold’s name, too.

They are too irrational to realize that the best defense against him would be to ignore him.

And it isn’t just the left, either. I love the way that Cruz is polarizing the Republican party and smoking out the Rinos. The hate and vitriol on Fox is so bad right now that I can’t stand to listen for more than a minute or so. It is very easy to tell the true conservatives from the synthetic ones. I see a cleansing process occurring.

So do I.

And you’re not gonna like it.

And Cruz manages it all without becoming unhinged or appearing unreasonable.

Shouting “YOUR WORLD IS ON FIRE!!!” to a three-year-old seems pretty unhinged to me.

I can’t say the same for his dissenters though.
