How To Help South Louisiana

South Louisiana is having one of the worst floods in its history.  Our readers are well-known for opening their hearts and wallets to help people in need. Here are a few ways you can help the victims of the Gret Stet flood of 2016.

Second Harvest Food Bank.

United Way of Southeast Louisiana Flood Relief.

Finally, Denham Springs is one of the hardest hit communities. Here’s a link to a gofundme to support the Denham Springs Aminal Shelter.

Thanks in advance for helping. Our readers rock as well as rule.

  1. If I’d read my email before FB today, I’d have seen this and wouldn’t have asked on another post of yours. I’m sharing on FB and asking others to do the same. I appreciate the info.

  2. Two things for the next disaster: First, if you or a loved one is involved in a natural disaster, your first instinct is to call and tell people you’re all right or to call your loved one to see if they’re all right. Fight that instinct and TEXT, DON’T CALL. Texting takes up far less bandwidth than a call phone call.

Second, if you want to provide direct assistance, consider becoming certified as a disaster child care provider. Children’s Disaster Services, an agency of the Church of the Brethren, (http://www.brethren.org/cds/) trains and equips volunteers to provide on-the-ground child care while adults are navigating through various aid agencies to secure emergency shelter, clothing and food. One less worry for people affected by flood, tornado or earthquake, knowing that their children are in a safe environment with trained caretakers.

  3. Looking at twitter, I found so many positive tweets about the #LAFlood. So many people are putting themselves out there to help others like the Cajun Navy volunteers. It makes me proud to say I am from LA.

  4. Sent hoomins and critters some dough. We here in drought-stricken western NY wouldn’t mind *some* of that water wandering this way. Only some – we can flood pretty well on our lonesome in normal years.

    1. Thanks. The Petco Foundation is matching the critter donations up to 100K. They’ll be able to do a lot of good with that money.
