First we’d need some cold weather. Pie is always nice.
Chili when it’s chilly!
My mom called it Scrabble. Brown ground beef, add chopped celery and onions, deglaze with water or wine, add cream of mushroom soup. Serve over sliced bread or mashed potatoes.
Hot cheese soup
1/4 c each roughly chopped: onion, carrot, celery, bell pepper
1 minced serrano pepper
1/4 c whole wheat flour
5 c vegetable stock
1/2 c tahini
1/2 lb sharp cheddar cheese, grated
sautee the vegetables in butter until soft. Add the stock, then slowly pulse in the rest of the ingredients with an immersion blender by small handfuls until smooth. Garnish with toasted sunflower seeds.
Serve with beer bread:

Bowl of gumbo, baguette…and a bottle of red wine. Oh yeah.
