Mad Magazine recently announced it was ceasing publication of new material. It was the first humor magazine I ever read. It was the home of snotty adolescent humor when I was a snotty adolescent. I loved it but eventually moved on. It was, however, reassuring that it was still around. Who among is won’t miss Alfred E. Neuman?
Here are two classic covers from the 1960’s:
When I was in seventh grade, I was “in love” with a guy named Jim Ellis … he played trumpet in band … I thought he was of the the cutest guys in junior high but my friends all said he looked like Alfred E. Neuman. Believe me, he did NOT. He was, though, painfully shy. I wonder what happened to him.
And who could forget “The Heap?”
Why not start a campaign to save MAD Magazine? Newsweek was saved. I’m not sure why but Newsweek was saved! So, if it can happen for Newsweek, it can surely happen for MAD!
