It seems unbelievable to me that the Republican Party has gone so completely off the deep end, but every week some element of the group says “Oh, you think we’re nuts? Hold my beer.”
A bill introduced in Tennessee legislature would create a new category for marriage which would be limited to one man and one woman. It’s a sad attempt to get around the Obergefell decision by creating a loophole for clerks who don’t want to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples. The weird thing is that it does not specify a minimum age for marriage, and when that issue was brought up during the bill’s discussion, there was no move to amend the bill to include one:
A new bill in Tennessee is looking to make the state’s definition of common-law marriage as one between “one man” and “one woman”.
The bill also has no age requirements, opening the door for child marriages.

Tennessee didn’t have a minimum age for marriage until 2018. Seems like some Republican creeps are mad they can’t exploit underage girls in the regular legal system, so they built themselves a workaround.
State legislators in Oklahoma passed a bill on Tuesday that would make performing an abortion illegal and punishable with up to 10 years in prison. The governor has already said he’s happy to sign anti-choice legislation brought to his desk. Oklahoma lawmakers are gambling that the abortion case that the Supreme Court is this deciding term related to Mississippi’s 15 week abortion ban will break their way and abolish the precedent set by Roe v. Wade. Awesome.
With Ketanji Brown Jackson well onto to confirmation as the next Supreme Court justice, Senate Republicans are using the process to run a circus of smears. Tom Cotton reached the lowest level with this awfulness:
Comparing former Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson to Ketanji Brown Jackson, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) says: "The last Judge Jackson left the Supreme Court to go to Nuremberg and prosecute the case against the Nazis. This Judge Jackson might have gone there to defend them." pic.twitter.com/nf465Ox53X

Finally, because the American Taliban is always looking to build alliances with other national talibans, today 63 Republicans voted against affirming that NATO and democratic societies are important:
63 Rs voted NO on a non-binding resolution reaffirming “unequivocal support for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization as an alliance founded on democratic principles" and calling on Biden to push to establish a "center for democratic resilience" at NATO.https://t.co/qY4zyb7YFm pic.twitter.com/696Wq2xLUs

This is all so awful and I can’t see any major improvements anytime soon. It’s a mad world.
I keep thinking of that Charlie Daniels song, “The South’s Gonna Do It Again” … they keep Fng trying.
