Newly minted Gret Stet Gov. Jeff Landry has been a busy boy. As a MAGA reactionary, he’s determined to turn the clock back as far as possible. He threw a just concluded special session that made me want to throw up. It featured his so-called “tough on crime” agenda. His supporters in the lege claimed they had new ideas but all they did was reject the progressive criminal justice policies of John Bel Edwards in favor of policies that have been proven not to work.
It’s the second time this century that the Gret Stet of Louisiana has been turned into a laboratory for far right ideas. The first time came during the reign of Gov. PBJ. Bobby Jindal’s focus, however, was on fucking up the social welfare, public education, and public health care systems. Jindal remains wildly unpopular; something the Clownfish would be wise to remember.
If he weren’t such a dangerous man, I’d pity the Clownfish. Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood is a scary place.
Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood is not located in a big city. Rural Louisiana disdains big cities. New Orleans is lousy with Blacks, gays, and liberals who don’t know what’s good for them. The Clownfish knows best. #sarcasm
Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood is so terrifying that he wants everyone to be armed. The lege just passed a law allowing unlicensed and untrained people to carry firearms. The Clownfish thinks it will make the Gret Stet safer but all it will do is make it stupider and more dangerous.
Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood is a place that disdains public health. It’s full of idiots who refused to wear masks during the pandemic. The Clownfish cheered them on.
Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood is a place that supports the Dipshit Insurrection and roots for Trump’s attempts to subvert the constitution.
Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood is a place where prisons will become more dangerous because of changes to the parole system.
Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood is a place where executions will be commonplace after 14 years without one in Louisiana.
Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood is a place where institutional racism thrives and local self-rule is only for rural parishes.
Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood is a place that makes PBJ’s neighborhood look quaint and benign.
Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood is a place where the oil and chemical companies run the show with the Clownfish as their ringmaster.
Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood is a state of mind: fearful, yet boastful.
Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood is a place where Festivus will be celebrated daily and liberals owned hourly.
What’s next for Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood? The return of chain gangs?
Nothing would surprise me. Frightened people do frightening things.
Finally, Mr. Landry’s Neighborhood is a place that Mr. Rogers wouldn’t want to visit let alone live there.
