You’re probably wondering why the featured image is of then Washington Redskins QB Doug Williams and then First Lady Nancy Reagan. It’s the jersey, stupid.
Just Say No was the slogan of Nancy Reagan’s vapid and largely ineffective anti-drug program. It gave her something to do when she wasn’t consulting astrologers. I made fun of it at the time, but the slogan was the best thing about the whole mishigas. It’s time to bring it back in a different context.
If you haven’t read Jamie O’s fine post from yesterday, click here. One of his main points is that Democrats should fight harder against the MAGA madness blanketing the nation’s capitol. I concur. They should Just Say No.
Democrats and Republicans run for Congress for different reasons. Typically, Democrats want to get shit done. That used to be true of some GOPers but most of them are in it for the freak show now. Voting no comes easily to them. Dems want to make deals to get shit done, MAGA Republicans are saboteurs.
Just Say No to MAGA sabotage.
In other political systems, the party out of power votes automatically against measures proposed by the party in power. That’s how your basic parliamentary system works. Congressional Dems should give it a try except when it comes to funding the federal government and keeping it open.
Just Say No to MAGA madness.
Senate Democrats should oppose ALL Trump appointments. It’s what Republicans did with the vast majority of Obama and Biden appointees. I realize that Marco Rubio is perhaps the most normal appointee thus far BUT it doesn’t matter he’s a former colleague, what matters is that he sold his soul to President Pennywise in 2016. Soul sales to Trump are non-refundable. He has Rubio’s balls in a vise. This is someone worthy of a unanimous vote?
Just Say No to MAGA nominees.
I hate shooting at my allies. I try my damndest not to. These are NOT normal times, and Democratic leaders need to understand that calling the Insult Comedian a fascist was not just campaign rhetoric. It was a statement of fact. Appeasement never works.
Just Say No to MAGA fascism.
I love appropriating GOP imagery to use against them. Nancy Reagan’s picture on an anti-Trump post gives me vicarious thrills. The picture did, however, oblige me to call the Washington NFL team by its former name. How long until Team Trump comes out against the Commanders?
Just Say No to the Redskins.
Finally, I wish I were more optimistic that a Just Say No to MAGA campaign will succeed where Mrs. Reagan’s anti-drug effort failed. Optimism is in short supply nowadays. What should NOT be in short supply is a fighting spirit. Our spirits are low, but the stakes are high.
Just Say No to MAGA.
