It was a quiet Christmas day at Adrastos World HQ. 2024 was such a bad year for us that I eagerly await 2025. I’m ready to turn the page on my annus horribilus BUT I’m not ready to write about politics this morning. I’m trying something completely different.
In lieu of a full-blown Odds & Sods post, the last Saturday of the year is dedicated to that giant ego trip known as the Best of Adrastos. Catchy title, eh?
The Saturday post usually has three acts with the third act consisting of bits and bobs and, well, odds and sods. I hereby declare it Saturday on Thursday and present The Third Act.
Did that make sense? If not, sue me. But first the closing track of the album that inspired this madness:
Cue stock introduction: We begin our third act with our favorite stolen feature.
Separated At Birth Casting Edition: Much to the chagrin of many of my friends, I’m not a Bob Dylan fan. I respect him as a songwriter but don’t care for his singing voice. Sorry, Al.
The hot biopic this holiday season is A Complete Unknown, so I give you Timothée Chalamet and Bob Dylan:
Here’s a live version of the song from whence the movie title came:
I may not be a Dylan fan but I love The Band.
How about a Timothy tune for Timothée?
Your Weekly Oscar: What’s not to love about this Oscar-winning song with music by Mancini and lyrics by Mercer? Here’s OP’s take on the M Boys tune.
Have I told you lately how much I love Oscar Peterson? I dig this dude from Hoboken as well.
Saturday GIF Horse: Let’s look a two-headed GIF horse in the mouth or some such shit. I give you GIFs from two fine movies set in December, Die Hard and The Apartment.
Classic Movie Trailer: Speaking of the Billy Wilder classic, lets ride the trailer into the sunset. If that didn’t make sense, sue me.
Celebrity Ad Corner: I was stupidly happy when I discovered that Kojak is streaming on Amazon Prime. It’s good to see Maybe Cousin Telly Savalas in his signature role.
Another role Telly played to the hilt was pitch man for boozy products:
Who better than a Greek American actor to plug an Italian aperitif? Oops, I forgot to say baby, baby.
That’s all for this oddball Odds & Sods spin off. I typically end my Saturday posts with the “tune in next week” bat meme but it’s not Saturday and this post is a one-off, so the last word goes to The Band with the theme from The Third Man:
