We begin with a reminder that the Gret Stet of Louisiana is a phrase I stole from a relative, Uncle Earl Long. The former governor is political kin, not a blood relation but he was known for his creative use of invective. I only steal from the best.
Why the Gret Stet Of NDAs? Because of the use of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) by the administration of The Clownfish DBA Governor Jeff Landry. This reliance on NDAs in a state known for chicanery and corruption is suspect. Team Clownfish is selling off bits of the state to Zuckerberg’s META and Musk’s Space X in the name of economic development. This argument is dubious as data centers are in the mix, which are increasingly unpopular with everyone but Landry and the Kaiser of Chaos. Even Texas Governor Greg Abbott is now leery of data centers. The Clownfish is all in.
Repeat after me: The tech overlords cometh to Louisiana. The Nerd Reich is nigh.
The Clownfish claims this is NOT like past sell-outs to big business:
Landry told WRKF radio host Jim Engster last week that he understands that Louisianans have seen industries come into the state for “generations.”
“Basically they just extract wealth, right? They cut our forest, they mined our minerals, drilled oil and gas, and sometimes they would come and then they would leave,” he said. “The economic boom we’re having right now. … It’s here to stay.”
Say what? Jeff Landry never met an oil rig he didn’t love as you can see from this sign he waved as a Congressman at President Obama during a 2011 speech:
As a tool of the petro-chemical industry, Landry’s comments about past extractions are as preposterous as his position as Greenland envoy.
The Clownfish is trying to spin his sell-out to the tech overloads as the beginning of a brave new world for the Gret Stet of Louisiana. If the Musk project comes to pass, it will be located in rural Vermillion Parish, which is located in southwestern Louisiana. Workers of all stripes will have to be brought in as the parish’s population is approximately 57K. Who is it benefiting? Not the locals.
Musk did not appear in person at the announcement of the Space X project. He appeared on video as if he were Big Brother.
Is it 1984 in 2026? Discuss amongst yourselves.
Some state legislators are beginning to balk about signing NDAs. A few GOPers have even asked to have their NDAs rescinded. That’s not the case with Republican senate nominee Julia Letlow who may have profited from information pertinent to her Meta NDA:
U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow signed a nondisclosure agreement with Laidley LLC — a shell company of Meta Platforms — on June 29, 2024, giving her access to confidential details about the tech giant’s plans for a $50 billion data center in Richland Parish, according to the document obtained by the Gulf States Newsroom.
Within months, she began buying stock in Meta and Nvidia, the company whose chips power Meta’s data centers. She didn’t disclose those trades for more than a year, well past the 45-day deadline required under the STOCK Act, the federal law that bars members of Congress from trading on nonpublic information gained through their official position.
The stench of her investments is starting to stick to her campaign. She has a little known Democratic opponent in Jamie Davis so she seems on track to win but the data center issue is making the race interesting. Whether it translates to votes in 2026 is unclear.
The Zuckerberg/Musk sell-out is more likely to be an issue in Landry’s 2027 reelection campaign. His penchant for secrecy will be on the ballot. Most people in the Gret Stet care more about the governorship than senatorial elections: The governor has power over their day-to-day lives whereas senators are distant figures. In 2026, GOP senators are merely members of Trump’s pep squad who cheer his every move.
The arrival of the tech overlords in the Gret Stet of Louisiana is worrisome. The Clownfish overestimates his own intelligence and he’s dealing with much smarter people. Zuckerberg only cares about Meta’s bottom line but Musk has a political agenda. The only thing Musk and Landry have in common is a devotion to all things MAGA. The Clownfish may think he’s a tech savant but he’s being used by the tech overlords as a useful idiot.
Repeat after me: The tech overlords cometh to Louisiana. The Nerd Reich is nigh.
