NEW YORK — CBS ordered “60 Minutes” correspondent Lara Logan and her producer to take a leave of absence Tuesday following a critical internal review of their handling of the show’s October story on the Benghazi raid, based on a report on a supposed witness whose story can’t be verified.
The review, by CBS News executive Al Ortiz and obtained by The Associated Press, said the “60 Minutes” team should have done a better job vetting the story that featured a security contractor who said he was at the U.S. mission in Libya the night it was attacked last year

Lara Logan was indeed taken in, but it was by her own network under whose auspices davies’ book was published. He lied alright, but it was not under orders. He saw himself a chance to not only make some money, but give himself the undeserved status of hero.
I have posted his original report with his own signature which proves that he lied. He was NOT at the compound, He did NOT climb a twelve foot wall in plain view of the terrorists who just stood by WATCHING him do it without firing a shot. He did NOT break into an alqaeda held hospital, nor did he see Chris Stevens’ body.
He did, however wait a year to publish this false information out of the blue, not for obama, but for himself. He is not an American. He was a contractor for Blue Mountain, a British ‘security’ agency who put the untrustworthy Libyan security people in place at the compound who ran away rather than do what they were hired to do.
I would LOVE to blame obama for this, but for once, it wasn’t him. cbs bought this guy’s story hook, line, and sinker and only after THEY published the book did Lara Logan go with the story. cbs should fire themselves.

Florida’s Republican chairman and the GOP county leaders represented by rehabbing Congressman Trey Radel called on him to “resign immediately” Monday, saying his recent cocaine-possession arrest and guilty plea were not tolerable.

“These actions have violated the trust of those whom he was elected to represent and fall short of the standards for an elected official; especially a member of the United States Congress,” the statements from the Lee and Collier county Republican executive committees said.

“His actions clearly disqualify the pursuit of another term and if he should run for re-election, he would not enjoy our support,” Radel’s hometown Republicans wrote. “We feel it is in the best interests of all involved that he resign immediately.”

The two counties approved the statements in separate emergency meetings — all with the support of Republican Party of Florida Chairman Lenny Curry.

Apparently he’s taking a ‘leave of absence’ to get treatment, thus leaving

Been thinking about it. Radel could’ve stayed if it was a habit he gave up after being elected. He should’ve quit…the time for rehab would’ve been between the election and taking office.

I don’t like the precedent of him not quitting. What if Obama or one of his appointees we can’t stand is caught doing illegal drugs? I’d rather we had the talking point that Radel was forced to step down, and such behavior won’t be tolerated on either side of the aisle.

Sens. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee said Wednesday that they won’t try to block the bipartisan deal to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling.

“The timing of the vote will make no difference to the outcome,” Cruz (R-Texas) said. “I have no intention of delaying the vote.”

Cruz and Lee (R-Utah) had spearheaded the campaign to attach ObamaCare language to any new budget bills, and had pushed their colleagues to take a hard-line stance.

But the pair emerged from a meeting of Senate Republicans Wednesday afternoon to say they would let the agreement — which contains only one provision on ObamaCare — move forward.

“Some of us want to see it first — we still don’t have text,” Lee said. “But provided we get the text and have time t review it and everything, I suspect we’ll collapse the time.”

There has been speculation that the bipartisan deal might originate in the House, thereby eliminating some procedural hurdles when the bill moved to the Senate. But with Cruz and Lee withdrawing their filibuster threats, several GOP senators said the upper chamber will likely act first on the agreement.

The deal reached by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) would fund the government through Jan. 15 and raise the debt-ceiling until February. It would require income verification for subsidies under ObamaCare, but otherwise leave the helathcare law untouched.

The weeks-long fight over ObamaCare has left the GOP sharply divided and licking its wounds, after centrist Republicans warned for weeks that the battle was futile and damaging to the party.

Several Republicans left the meeting Wednesday grumbling that the conservatives in their ranks had prolonged the impasse even as Republicans were sinking in the polls.

“We left a lot on the table because we couldn’t get our act together, but this is the best Mitch could do,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who will vote for the deal. “We need to stop the bleeding, lessen the damage to the party.”

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) echoed that message.

“I hope it is another 15 years at least before we have to go through this exercise again,” McCain said. “We’re in a hole, we have to dig out and come up with a positive agenda.”
