Everybody’s Talkin’

Midnight Cowboy was a revolutionary film when it came out in 1969. It’s still pretty strong stuff 55 years later. One of the best things about the movie was how it used this week’s FCH tune.

Fred Neil wrote Everybody’s Talkin’ in 1966 but didn’t record it for 2 years. It wasn’t a hit for the songwriter, but Harry Nilsson scored a Grammy and a Top Ten hit after his version was used in Midnight Cowboy.

We begin with Fred Neil:

I dig this Harry Nilsson album cover as well as his cover of this week’s tune. It makes me want to stop and stare.

Louis Armstrong recorded an early cover of this week’s tune:

FCH regular Diana Krall returns with her take on the Neil classic.

Finally, a 21st Century live version from the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

What would the Friday Cocktail Hour be without instrumental versions of the week’s tune? This time, Ramsey Lewis followed by King Curtis.

That’s it for this week. Let’s drink to Hurricane Francine being the only storm to hit New Orleans. It’s what Mac, Irma, Allen, and Aaron would want. Never argue with them.
