Hurricane Francine is just a bad memory here at Adrastos World Headquarters. We were lucky. We live on high ground, so it didn’t flood in our neighborhood. It was scary outside with the sound of the wind howling under our raised house, which made it difficult to sleep.
The good news is that we didn’t lose power. We deserved a break in that regard: after Hurricane Isaac, we lost power for a week and after Ida for 10 days.
The rest of the New Orleans metro area wasn’t so lucky. The wettest core of the storm crept our way leading to some serious flooding as well as terlet troubles. We’re under a terlet explosion warning, so doing laundry or running the dishwasher is out until we get an all clear signal. Again, we’re lucky: there have been reports of sewage backups in neighboring Metry. Oy, just oy.
Hurricane Francine was a reminder of how good our local TV news is. All the stations threw everything and everyone at covering the storm. There are some sleepy anchors soldiering on as I write this. Well done, y’all.
Let’s talk cats. It was Perry Mason’s first storm with us. He hates rain, so last night was trying for him but he’s okay now. Claire Trevor was with us for Ida and she was as cool as human Claire Trevor’s character in Raw Deal. Nothing phased her last night. She’s a tough little kitty.
I’m exhausted. It’s a good thing I got my iron infusion treatment the day before the storm. I hesitate to think what I would feel like if not for the infusion. As it is I feel like I was run over by a small truck.
I’m not sure how many of my regular Friday and weekend features I’ll be able to crank out. My mind is willing, but my body is weary. What can ya do?
Repeat after me: Nature is random. We caught a break this time.
The last word goes to Roy Orbison and Squeeze with different songs with the same title and sentiment:

Glad y’all got through safely! Maybe as Perry Mason ages, he’ll acclimate (ahem) a little more to New Orleans weather and not let storms bother him so much. I hope so!
