You’re probably asking yourself what the hell is Commedia Dell’Arte? I’ll let Britannica explain:
Italian theatrical form that flourished throughout Europe from the 16th through the 18th century. Outside Italy, the form had its greatest success in France, where it became the Comédie-Italienne. In England, elements from it were naturalized in the harlequinade in pantomime and in the Punch-and-Judy show, a puppet play involving the commedia dell’arte character Punch. The comical Hanswurst, of German folklore, was also a commedia dell’arte character.”
Punch was one of the OG slapstick characters. He was a Moe Howard prototype, one could even say that he was one of the OG Insult Comedians, which makes him a Trump prototype. Sorry Punch but that’s what you get for slapping Judy around all these centuries.
How does this apply to the Comey case? It’s a farce and a joke that was dismissed by Judge Cameron McGowan Currie yesterday along with Tish James’ case on unrelated but equally specious charges. The Judge ruled that Lindsey Halligan was illegally appointed acting US Attorney and that Pam Bondi’s attempt to cure the issue made matters worse.
Repeat after me: Pam Bondi screwed the pooch.
Here’s Comey’s response to the news:
I’m focusing on the Comey case because its trajectory is more predictable. The MAGA DOJ rushed into the indictment because the statute of limitations was about to expire. The judge dismissed the case without prejudice but noted this issue in a footnote. Footnotes sometimes become the law.
I have no idea what the higher courts will do with and to this opinion. We should, however, celebrate this without spiking the ball. Stay tuned.
For his part, Comey expects Team MAGA to come after him on this or another matter but he plans to fight. It’s a pity that some of the big law firms chose flight over flight.
