Jara Sang His Song–A Weapon, in the Hands of Love

Victor Jara, 1932-1973 Go read Bob Harris. Do it. And do it every day. The man has a way with words. I actually learned about Victor Jara from a U2 song (“One Tree Hill,” quoted in the title to this post). And I’m glad I bothered to look him up. Hooray forThe Joshua Tree! Seriously, though. Check outBob Harris’ site. And maybe buy one of his books? You’ll be glad you did. Continue reading Jara Sang His Song–A Weapon, in the Hands of Love

Today on Tommy T’s Obsession With The Freeperati – gorge rising

Good Monday morning, all !
Tony Hendra famously wrote “A walk through the ocean of most souls would scarcely get your feet wet.”
Well here, a walk through what passes for souls on Free Republic will slime you in idiocy all the way up to your knees, so double-check those iso suit seals, and we’ll get started.

First up –“Barack The Magic Negro” – what’s the problem with that??

GOP Official Blasted for Distributing Obama ‘Magic Negro’ CD

In spite of RNC Chairman Robert M. “Mike” Duncan’s sharply negative
reaction, former Tennessee GOP leader Chip Saltsman said thatparty leaders
should stand up to criticism over distributing a CD with the song. He
earlier defended the tune as one of several “lighthearted political
parodies” that have aired onRush Limbaugh‘s radio show.
…

“The 2008 election was a wake-up call for Republicans to reach out and
bring more people into our party,” Duncan said in a statement. “I am
shocked and appalled that anyone would think this is appropriate as it
clearly does not move us in the right direction.”

Freepers are shocked and appalled, too – that Michael Steele didn’t appear on the dais eating watermelon, fried chicken, and doing a buck-and-wing while grinning from ear to ear.

“and bring more people into our party”
From what I can tell from this last election, the only people they’re trying to bring into “our party” are liberals.
I wish the Republican party would grow a pair already.

Yep. More crazy and a blacklist (h/t Adam Serwer).
And a pair.
And, of course, more clever political satire like this. Because a white guy calling a black man a Negro in 2008 is even funnier than calling him a nigger or a jiggaboo.
Because when you’re a racist with a smile, it’s satire.

Get ready for the next 4 years when the AP will do everything to protect the legacy of their “boy”.
The nauseating, vomit-inducing “shirtless” Obama was just a taste of what’s to come.

Let’s see: Racial slur “boy” – check.
Obama picture nauseating because it stirred hidden sexual feelings deep inside Max – check.
Obligatory ignorance of English language display by putting quotes around a word that doesn’t require them – check.

My email to Duncan

Oh, this should be priceless.

I was ready to accept your greeting until I read that you criticized
Chip Saltsman and “Barack the Magic Negro.”

I therefore reject your greeting. And please don’t greet me again.

What a wimp you are.
Because of you and others like you in the party I refused to donate to
the RNC.

And now I intend to threaten you by promising to withhold the donations I haven’t been making.

Until the RNC gets some guts and stands up to the communist
dems I will actively campaign against anyone donating to the party.

You’re going to campaign against anyone donating to the RNC? Isn’t that like, the base?

After all the disgusting things people like Chuckie Schumer, Dickie
Durbin, “Pinky” Reid, and others said about Bush and nothing was said
about that.

Remember all the times Dubya was called a Negro?
I don’t recall you standing up for all the nasty stuff said about Sarah Palin. If I am wrong please email me the info.

Yeah, cupcake, I’m sure the head of the RNC has nothing better to do than to mail you “the info”.

And if Michael Steele becomes chairman I will actively campaign that no one donate to the party.

Because he’s a Negro, too.

It’s time the RNC had some spine. When have the commie dems ever
apologized or compromised.

Or used question marks?

I don’t recall but we sure do allow them to
wipe their shoes all over us.
Trust me – I reflect a lot of the grassroots opinion.

And that would be because the GOP grassroots are crazier than a shithouse rat.

We need REAL leadership in the RNC and Steele doesn’t stand up.

Or do the buck-and-wing.
We’ll be replacing Michael Steele with someone who more fully represents the true values of the
non-RINO GOP

LawnJockey

I won’t leave the party but I will work against anyone who does not reflect the values of Ronald Reagan and our constitution.
Remember, we do have a 1st Amendment – freedom of political speech.

And fight off the jackbooted thugs of the military from behind my couch one of these days, which is why I’m stockpiling ammo and MREs.

is mob rule. We had a Republic but lost it. I am so disgusted with

Well, of course you hate Democracy.Your side fucking lost, and that’s how whiners like you view Democracy – as a way toget your way! You’re like that little asshole on the playground who wants to change the rules as soon as you start losing.Well, you’re the minority now, so sit down and STFU !

Man, that felt good.

To: tricky_k_1972
There is one thing that liberals hate and that is being parodied,
satired and made fun of. They know their positions have no merit and
can only succeed by duping the American public (cf the recent election
where “Hope” was what people voted for…is that not ample proof?).
So for the next four years, let’s make fun of, parody, circulate jokes,
draw cartoons, of this lunatic Democrat regime pointing out just how
ridiculous their election was. There is plenty of material to work
with. So let the creative juices flow

Oh yeah –that’ll work.
“Conservatives” are already famous for their sense of humor and note-perfect sense of satire.
Witness such recent successes as “The Half-hour Comedy Hour” and “An American Carol”…

By all means, you should attempt to satirize your political opponents, because on the whole, “conservatives” are about as funny as Anthrax, and your humiliation is not quite complete.

Speaking of completing Freeperati humiliation, there’s a lot more richly-deserved ridicule after the jump, so – you know.

Riding the Adrenaline Chicken

Down the bayou, newspapers are writing stories about a new cajun seasoning product called“Adrenaline Chicken”. It’s marketed as “Cajun Crack” and after reading about it this morning, I knew I had to try it. Here’s a slice fromone article: [Chef Nino] Thibodaux is most proud of the label and the saying featured prominently on the front of the can. The happy yellow chicken was designed and drawn by his son, while the phrase “Packed With Pure Adrenaline Chicken It’s Cajun Crack!” was coined by Thibodaux himself. After having reservations about Thibodaux using the slogan, Rouses [supermarket] officials decided to let … Continue reading Riding the Adrenaline Chicken

Hangover Cures

Water has never done anything for me but made the situation worse. I swear by a big glass of orange juice and a couple of ibuprofen BEFORE you go to bed. Plus maybe some potato chips of some kind. If I’ve had more than two drinks, chances are I’m gonna wake up with a headache even if I didn’t get silly, so medicating in advance works to head that off. Course, it’s also good to have A BEER and not TWELVE. Especially at the office party. A. Continue reading Hangover Cures

Being Right That The World Is Burning Down Kind of Sucks

A lot of people who are right are fucking crazy nuts: But not a condition that has to; indeed, this is why all the prophets in the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament were not organizational men. Stephen, the first martyr, got enough people mad at him to get stoned to death for his trouble of speaking the truth (which is all that prophesy is). Jeremiah constantly cried to God to relieve him of the stress of being a prophet. Ezekiel reads like he found some funny mushrooms there on the banks of the Chabar, and clearly suffered the torments … Continue reading Being Right That The World Is Burning Down Kind of Sucks

Next Thing You Know, We’ll Be Singing “The Internationale” On Our Coffee Breaks

Rollin’ with the homies. For the last few years, I tried slogging through graduate school. And, well, for various reasons, I just can’t be educated. So now I’m back at regular-ass jobs again, and being out of the ivory tower can sometimes be fun, in that bizarre “I’m living inThe Office” kind of way. Not that graduate school wasn’t replete with idiot bosses, nauseating ass-kissers, freaks (though not usually the fundamentalist sort), jerks, failed attempts at romance, and the typical melange of dipshittery that we call “humanity” when we’re in polite company. However, working in an actual corporate setting somehow … Continue reading Next Thing You Know, We’ll Be Singing “The Internationale” On Our Coffee Breaks

‘I’m So Sick of Congress I Could Vomit’

Seriously, could they fail any harder? Harry Reid has sworn to use his mastery of Senate procedure to block the Burris appointment and protect the integrity of that very exclusive club, which nonetheless warmly embraces Joe Lieberman. If only he had been so Johnny-on-the-spot when Bush was appointing Supreme Court Justices, ramming through telecom immunity, FISA and the Military Commissions Act, and otherwise trashing the country. I thinkthis may be my favorite part, however: Should Roland Burris show up Tuesday for duty in the Senate, armed police officers stand ready to bar him from the floor. This cinematic showdown is … Continue reading ‘I’m So Sick of Congress I Could Vomit’

A New Year’s Classic

(I’m filing this quickly as I couldn’t pass it up. I’m supposed to be on the way to my MIL’s house and I’m getting withering glares from The Missus. All typos are mine. Feel free to correct or castigate me as I deserve it…) “This is for the National Championship for Nebraska…” If you’ve got two or three hours today, flip to ESPN Classic for one of the best bowl games we’ve seen in the past quarter century. The Big Ticket is showing the 1984 Orange Bowl featuring Nebraska and Miami for the whole ball of wax. In the history … Continue reading A New Year’s Classic

Friday Night Rec Thread: Wedding Tales

Tell me a funny wedding story. Yours, a family member’s, anybody’s We got started on this the other day in the crack den. My own wedding has several, including a couple Mr. A would skin me if I posted here. I’ll tell the tamest one. One of our ushers was an entire day late. We called him up after the rehearsal he missed and he said, “Wait, WHEN are you getting married again?” Mercifully he lived within driving distance. We also had a guest call an hour into the reception asking if it was too late to RSVP, and was … Continue reading Friday Night Rec Thread: Wedding Tales

I’m scared.

Is that acceptable to say? With the thoughts and promise and the hope that comes with finally ridding ourselves of potentially the worst president in American history (don’t know enough about some of the early 1800s guys to make that an absolute statement, plus I heard Buchanan was a major idiot…) , I guess I should be happier and more enthusiastic. I was in Blockbuster last night and saw thisgiant Obama poster with his speech from the Grant Park rally and I still got shivers. I’m looking forward to the next four (hopefully eight) years of what could be our … Continue reading I’m scared.

Resolutions

Got any? Mine are: 1. Stop eating like I’m still in college, because I’m not, and it’s not good for me. Or for Riot, who likes to scarf some of whatever I’m chowing on. Have meals, not just random handfuls of crackers grabbed at intervals that change daily. Have (blech) vegetables and fruit. 2. Get over my phobia/dislike/searing hatred of all medical professionals. Doctors and dentists exist for a reason. Just because every one of them I’ve ever seen has inspired homicidal rage in me does not mean I should wait until I’m in life-threatening pain before I see them. … Continue reading Resolutions

Bush Who?

On the Bush Redemption Circuit: Lowry: I just want to go back to Richard’s point about the no attacks on U.S. soil. U.S. soil is a big caveat. I mean, that is a key thing. And in our exit interview with President Bush, you’re just struck by the extent to which he was a war president. I mean, that’s what drove him most passionately. And when you talk to him about it, you feel as though he’s just sort of been left behind by the public and by history. And I think that’s because of the very success in preventing … Continue reading Bush Who?

Deep Thoughts, by Eva de Struction

I remember my seven-year-old self spending a not-inconsiderable amount of time seriously preoccupied with the end of the world. No small wonder considering the cultural stew I was marinated in: Take one part of the Technicolor hell and brimstone served up down at the Church of Christ, mix well with the leftovers from processing the death of my First-Ever President (first I was aware of anyway) shot dead right there in Texas, add one dash of precocious cynicism, another of paralyzing fear, both products of the monthly duck and cover drills in my first grade classroom. Shake well and serve. … Continue reading Deep Thoughts, by Eva de Struction
