Sunday Morning Video: David Bowie’s Serious Moonlight Tour

David Bowie had a direct connection to the cultural zeitgeist for a very long time. He adopted a series of personas during the 1970’s and ’80’s, all of them successful and very interesting. In 1983, he decided he wanted to be the biggest rock star in the world and released Let’s Dance. It worked. This video documents the wildly successful and popalicious tour in support of that album: Continue reading Sunday Morning Video: David Bowie’s Serious Moonlight Tour

Sunday Morning Video: Trekkies

I still have Star Trek on my mind. I stumbled into this documentary on cable the other day and watched it again. The fans are a bit nutty but also pretty darn intelligent, just like my readers. My favorite is the woman who is devoted to Data from TNG and calls herself a Spinerfem. Now, that’s a suffix I can get behind: Continue reading Sunday Morning Video: Trekkies

Sunday Morning Video: The Improbable Mr. Atlee

1945 Campaign poster via the Labour archive. Americans love *certain* British Prime Ministers but Clement Atlee is not one of them. Perhaps it’s because he ran the great reforming post-World War II Labour government that established the NHS. Socialism, bad; Thatcherism good. Sunday Morning Video: Blues and Gospel Train 1964

Dr A and I just watched the American Masters profile of gospel singer/rock pioneer, Sister Rosetta Tharpe. It turns out that Sister Rosetta and a bunch of other Yanks including Muddy Waters did a kinda goody show on British teevee in 1964. I’d never heard of it before, so my leg is all tingly, Tweety style. It was filmed in a train station in Manchester. Here it is: Continue reading Sunday Morning Video: Blues and Gospel Train 1964

Sunday Morning Video: The Jayhawks On Austin City Limits In 2004

Today on Adrastos’ obsession with the Jayhawks: This dates from the Rainy Day Music tour. Gary and company shared the bill with the lovely and talented Gillian Welch on January 3, 2004. It seems to be incomplete (it’s missing part of One Man’s Problem) but it’s more of the set than has turned up on the interweb before. Continue reading Sunday Morning Video: The Jayhawks On Austin City Limits In 2004

Sunday Morning Video: The Who Live At The Royal Albert Hall In 2000

The great concert series continues with this awesome set from Pete, Roger, the Ox and their sidemen and guest stars. I probably shouldn’t call Zack Starkey a mere sideman, he’s a *great* drummer. Btw, if you want to skip around, watch the video at YouTube: Continue reading Sunday Morning Video: The Who Live At The Royal Albert Hall In 2000
