Ready, Aim, Turn Left … Fire!

My favorite stage of post-election grief:Blaming the people who atually worked their asses off, rather than the angry, ignorant-ass ‘necks who voted the other way: Actually, it began to disintegrate the moment the leaders (and who were they, exactly?) decided to pour everything into the Democratic Party channels rather than explore the full potential of the power that was latent but present in the streets back in February and March of 2011. There were both strategic and procedural blunders that need to be accounted for. Procedurally, decisions were made (again, who made them?) in a very undemocratic way. Here we … Continue reading Ready, Aim, Turn Left … Fire!

Doesn’t Mean They’re Any Less Wrong

FromAlbum4 Ok, yeah, this is my own sour grapes reaction, but watching the election returns Tuesday, obviously disappointed, I took small comfort, but some comfort…history will judge wingnuts for what they are. In 1972 Nixon beat George McGovern like a rented mule. But Nixon, as Hunter Thompson wrote (citing Robert Kennedy), still “represent[ed] the dark side of the American dream, ” and McGovern is still a genuine war hero and decent human being. It’s unfortunate but true that there will always be Scott Walkers representing the dark side, and plenty of cretins happily following along. But there will also be … Continue reading Doesn’t Mean They’re Any Less Wrong

The North Remembers

They were standing by a lamp post, this middle-aged couple. They could have been my parents, in another life. They could have been yours. Sue and Kim. He retired after 33 years working for the state. She still worked for the state, on a temporary contract that kept getting extended. They’d had pay freezes for half a dozen years, when they didn’t have pay cuts. They weren’t getting wealthy on their pensions. They weren’t sporting $60 haircuts. They lived in a small town. They were trying to hold on to what they had. If I Can Last 30 Rounds There’s No Reason You Should Ever Have Your Head Down

It was a small moment but a telling one, on the Capitol Square, when the one Walker supporter waving a lawn sign (stakes still attached) around got tired from holding the thing over his backwards-capped head and let it slip. It struck the union-t-shirted fellow standing beside him right in the head. “Whoa, sorry man,” said the Walkerite, as everyone around him went tense and silent. The union fellow smiled. “It’s all right,” he said, and people took deep breaths again. “I’m fine.” Once NBC and MSNBC called the election for Walker, the crowd of a thousand faded, people walking … Continue reading If I Can Last 30 Rounds There’s No Reason You Should Ever Have Your Head Down

Bonne chance, Wisconsin

I’ve been missing in inaction while dealing with a string of crises but wanted to briefly chime in on the recall. It looks a bit dicey right now but with Athenae joining Scout and Jude on the barricades anything can happen. Finally, on a quasi-practical note, Richard Adams and the Guardian’s crack team of reporters are live blogging Wisconsin’s recallmania. Continue reading Bonne chance, Wisconsin

Tomorrow, Just Hours Away

Quick takes: Shortly after noon tomorrow I’ll be heading up to Madison where Jude, Scout and Joanie will join me in presiding over one of the following: The wildest victory party in the history of cheese, a wee-hours recount-worthy scenario whereby nobody really wins, or a series of posts that will be just the word “fuck” and rehashings of things I wrote back in 2004, which is sort of how this feels right now. Doc will be running a Tuesday night crack van for you all starting probably around poll-closing-time, dependent on his schedule, and reporting in as well. Today on Tommy T’s Obsession with the Freeperati – “Hello, suckers!” edition

Good morning, everyone!

The Endless Freepathon is over, and with almost a month to go before the next one! (pay up, Kibitzer)

Gullibility is high on the list of Freeperati characteristics, so let’s kick off with –Are we not suckers? We are FREEPO!

Are Hannity, Rush, and the big talkers playing us for $$$? (vanity)

Posted on Tuesday, May 01, 2012 10:41:51 PM byteg_76

Do you ever get the feeling that Rush and Hannity don’t really care who wins, just as long as their dollars keep rolling in from us tea party saps.

CaptainObvious2jpg

Besides Mark Levin, what prominent talker has gone out on a limb and endorsed true conservative candidates? Everyday we have to here Hannity interview the John McCains of the world. If he truly believed in the conservative movement, wouldn’t he be out there trumpeting Richard Mourdock and Don Stenberg like Levin is?

As for Rush, he is more interested in commercializing the tea party movement with his “Two if by tea” than promoting it.

Besides Mark Levin, they’re all sellouts just like the Republican leadership…looking out for their own career over the well being of the country.

Eric Cantor with his support of Richard Lugar and Adam Kinzinger in their primaries is consolidating moderate, establishment support behind his ambition to be speaker some day. But Hannity is more interested in a softball interview with him than evicerating him for his actions.

There are very few leaders in our movement.

That would be because you’re Authoritatrians for the most part (with some fake libertarians thrown in for flavour). The Dems have always been the Party of grassroots, and the Repubs have always been the Party ofSTFU and do/think what we tell you to.
Also, self-analysis doesn’t seem to be high on your list of priorities – just sayin’…

We stopped listening to Rush long ago, as he bumped bellies with those who rolled out the red carpet for tens of millions of illegals, during war time, as he babbled about feminist and golf.

It became unbearable.

What’s your beef with Rush? He doesn’t do interviews,

LimbaughInterview

so that part of your argument is out and he came as close to a Primary endorsement he has ever had with Santorum. I don’t feel played at all.

Ya… we just hate it when people make a name for themselves and make money by promoting their ideas.

Greedy Capitalists promoting ideas just because it sells.

someone should stop them

One way to look at it is we are using them to get our ideas out. If they get too far from home, theygo the way of BOR and leave the radio.

OReillyFuckit2

Fox has their own rules, as we saw with Glenn Beck. Now he can be as crazy as he wants to be, but while at Fox, he was “handled”.

And now he’s handling himself.

In a marketplace of ideas, the bad ideas go away eventually. CNN. MSNBC, and others are examples of that. There is absolutely nothing to stop you from blogging, becoming a writer, or becoming a talk show host.To keep an audience, you would have to keep some opinions close to your vest.

Death penalty for being brown, ferinstance.

Savage and Stein prove that. Levin is the only one that can call someone a liar, or communist and get back on the air the next day. I think hat’s because he’s a lawyer and leaves a way out. Look at what’s happened to Anne(sic) Coulter. I bet her next book isn’t quite the best seller she is used to.

Rush and Levin are the only ones I listen to. Occasionally Beck…tho I’m growing tired of the ‘spectacular revelations’ he has

BeckBlackboard2

(i.e. the Buffett connection to the pipeline deal. FReepers knew about that MONTHS ago!!!)

Hannity drives me nuts and I turn his show OFF as of late. He’s a toadie for the RNC…panders to the establishment with this “can’t we all just get along” attitude.

Particularly pissed about his lecturing to us about Breitbart’s death and that HE knew about Andrew’s heart condition and that we should lay off about the autopsy.

Breittoast

Most annoying with him is his pandering for the ‘black vote’ with the guests and callers he has on. It’s like…”well I know you’re going to vote for Obama…but can I sway you and your kids by sending you a beautiful arrangement of flowers from Pre-Flora and toys for the kids?” It’s disgusting. I’m sorry, No different from what the Democraps promise them. And that’s my damned opinion. So, there.

Freepers then speculate about their herojumping into a lifeboat and leaving them to go down with the ship…

To: teg_76

Yes, but Rush to his credit is pretty open about it. I don’t think he is joking one whit about bolting if the bottom drops out, and why not? Who would not if the option were there? He has also paid his dues and busted the crap out of many a leftist when he is not, in his own words “carrying water” for the Geriatric Old Plantation.

Hannity . . . Don’t like him for a number of reasons so I will withold comment. I don’t think I can be objective about him.

Would you explain a little bit more about Rush bolting? It’s been a good 2-3 weeks or more since I listened to his show. Is he talking about leaving the U.S.? I’d love to know when he discussed this.

You Don’t Get to Talk About Plantations

Look. You don’t get to do this. You just don’t. I know it’s some kind of intolerable burden on my fellow white people, not being able to say shit that can be said by Al Sharpton or Will.i.am or whoever the fuck we’re deciding represents All Black People for us this week. I know it’s really hard, when other people can use words without censure and then you try to use the same words and it’s bad, but that happens because you’re fucking stupid, so get over yourself. There is an entire English language available to you, Joe Walsh. There is … Continue reading You Don’t Get to Talk About Plantations

Weekend Question Thread: Bad Habits

The lady at the nail salon looked at me and said, are you sure? Blue? You? (At your age?) Blue, I told her. I mean, it’s polish. It comes off. And what’s the point of having fingernails if you can’t have some fun with them? I’ve bitten my nails probably as long as I’ve had them. Terrible habit, blah blah blah, filthy, blah, I know, I’ve always known. I tried those drugstore fake nails for a while. The stuff you put on to stop you from biting. I gave up chewing on them for Lent. Nothing worked. I’d get stressed … Continue reading Weekend Question Thread: Bad Habits

Non-offensive headline goes here…

There’s a pretty good reason that when a university hosts a “blogging ethics panel,” it rarely invites bloggers to participate. It’s the same reason why journalists enjoy the ability to write to a niche audience that is likely to share their opinions. It’s a lot easier to shape the debate if you’re only showing your side and you’re preaching to the converted. Bloggers rant, professors chastise and on and on it goes. These fights tend to devolve into what a friend once described as “Polish oral sex: You stand across the room from each other and scream, “Fuck you!” “No, … Continue reading Non-offensive headline goes here…
