More than half of adults in five military-friendly Southern Atlantic states say the United States should no longer be in Iraq and that the conflict was not worth the fight, according to a poll released Friday. The Elon University survey found that 52 percent of adults in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia no longer support a military presence in Iraq. Pakistani Ponies

ThePakistanis love them some Bin Laden. A public opinion poll of Pakistanis in September ranking certain leaders according to their popularity suggests what the results have been. Bin Laden, at 46% approval, was more popular than Musharraf, at 38%, who in turn was far better liked than Bush, at a bottom-scraping 7%. There is every reason to believe that, with the imposition of martial law, Musharraf’s and Bush’s popularity have sunk even further. Wars, whether on terror or anything else, don’t tend to go well when the enemy is more popular than those supposedly on one’s own side. Continue reading Pakistani Ponies

Why Chimpy Says, “Burn Baby Burn”

Californiano likey. Former President Richard Nixon still holds the lowest approval rating of any president in California in the era of modern polling, but President Bush is setting his own record: the longest streak of abysmal approval ratings ever registered in the state. A Field Poll released Wednesday bears out the trend: Bush is now at 27 percent approval among California voters, meaning he’s hovered in the high-20s or low-30s for nearly two years. “This is the longest running negative trough that we’ve ever seen for a president,” said Mark DiCamillo, director of the Field Poll, which has measured Californians’ … Continue reading Why Chimpy Says, “Burn Baby Burn”

Holden Wins! Holden Wins! Holden Wins!*

OK, so it has a Bondsesque asterisk next to it. I still whipped Athenae’s ass! You may recall that earlier this year Athenae and I entered into a friendly wager. I declared that Chimpy’s job approval rating in at least one major national poll would dip below 25% by October. Athenae, on the other hand, sided with the forces of darkness and chimpitude and bet that Dear Leader would be rewarded with the enduring love of more than 25% of the populace. Ha! Today we learn that Chimpy’s job approval rating plummeted to a record-breaking 24% in the newReuters/Zogby poll. … Continue reading Holden Wins! Holden Wins! Holden Wins!*

Albanians Swipe Chimpy’s Watch

Oh, lord. No wonder they were so happy to see him. One moment President George W. Bush was glad-handing Albanians on Sunday, proudly sporting a watch with a dark strap on his left wrist. Moments later, it was gone. Did it fall off? Did one of his bodyguards remove it? Or did one of the crowd artfully slip it off his wrist and pocket it? The United States Embassy in Albania on Tuesday emphatically denied that Bush’s watch was stolen during his visit to the country, where he was acclaimed as a hero. The Albanian media — and international Web … Continue reading Albanians Swipe Chimpy’s Watch

Record-Setting Chimp

Your president set another all-time low job approval rating, this time in the LA Times/Bloomberg Poll. The poll also shows a slight decline in President George W. Bush’s approval rating to 34 percent, a record low for the survey, from 36 percent in April. This is significant, as the LA Times/Bloomberg poll was the last major poll to rate Chimpy at or above 40% job approval. They did so in their December 8-11, 2006, poll (42%). No other major poll conducted in December 2006 had him above 38%. Continue reading Record-Setting Chimp
