Your President Speaks!

Today, in Heiligendamm, Germany, after a meeting with Poodle Blair. The Last Time On US Soil I’ll Be Standing You know, we had a press conference in the Rose Garden where, you know, it was the last time on U.S. soil I’ll be standing next to the Prime Minister talking about what we believe and how our efforts are going to lead to peace and to a better world for a lot of people. Breaking Up Is Hard to Do This is the last meeting I will have had with him as Prime Minister. It’s a nostalgic moment for me; … Continue reading Your President Speaks!

Today On Holden’s Obsession With [Yesterday’s] Gaggle

Dana Peroxide presided over a brief gaggle aboard Air Force One yesterday and though she wanted to talk about the G8 Summit the gagglers were all about Scooter. Chimpy Is Still Looking For Ways To Avoid Talking About The Plame Outing Q Any reaction to the sentencing for Scooter Libby? MS. PERINO: Yes, Dan Bartlett and Chief of Staff Josh Bolten informed the President right after take off — as you know, that news came in just as we were taxiing — so they informed the President. The President said that he felt terrible for the family, especially his wife … Continue reading Today On Holden’s Obsession With [Yesterday’s] Gaggle

Your President Speaks!

Just a quickie from Heiligendamm, Germany, upon meeting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Clean Up On Aisle Five! I reminded the Prime Minister that his great country and great economy is going to lead the way when it comes — along with the United States, in leading the way coming to develop technologies that will enable us to be — change our energy habits, and at the same time be good stewards of the environment. And In Other News…

Get ready for more shitty fans. Car bombings shook the streets leading to Baghdad’s most revered Shiite Muslim shrine Wednesday, and police reported at least seven people were killed and 27 others wounded. The simultaneous blasts at two key intersections in the Kazimiyah district were the latest blows in an unending series of apparent attacks by Sunni extremists bent on terrorizing Iraq’s Shiite majority and inflaming hostilities between the two sects. Oh, and they may kick s out of their country by New Years Day. The new bloodshed came a day after followers of anti-American Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr pushed … Continue reading And In Other News…

Endangered Species

Republikkkans are becoming more rare each month, according to Rasmussen. And Democrats should take heed as well. You were elected to end the war: Do it. For the fourth straight month, the number of people identifying themselves as Republicans has decreased. [snip] A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of 15,000 adults in May found that just 30.8% now say they’re Republicans. That’s down slightly from last month and down more than six percentage points from the GOP peak of 37.3% during Election 2004. The number of Republicans has been falling fairly steadily since the middle of 2005. However, the survey … Continue reading Endangered Species

Bush Boom, We Hardly Knew Ye

The Busheconomy continues it’s journey to the crapper. The productivity of American workers slowed even more sharply than first thought in the first three months of this year; wage pressures eased from the fourth quarter, although they were much higher than originally thought. The Labor Department reported Wednesday that the amount of output per hour of work for non-farm businesses rose at an annual rate of 1% in the January-March quarter. That was the slowest advance since the third quarter of last year and was below the government’s initial estimate that productivity rose at a 1.7% annual rate in the … Continue reading Bush Boom, We Hardly Knew Ye

Paging David Broder

Chimpy’s job approval rating fell to 32% in the latest USA Today/Gallup Poll (PollingReport link, haven’t found the results at Gallup or USA Today yet), down one point from last month and just one point over his all-time low of 31% in that poll. This marks his ninth consecutive month with a sub-40% job approval rating (his run stretches back to October in USA Today/Gallup), setting a record for any president in the Gallup poll. Ponyboy Rulz!

Via Eric Kleefeld, Chimpy sets an all-time low in the latest Pew Poll. For the first time in Pew Research Center polling, disapproval of President Bush’s job performance outnumbers approval by more than two-to-one (61% disapprove, 29% approve). Bush’s job approval is down six points from April, and is three points below the previous low measured in November and December of 2006. The decline in Bush’s support is most notable among Republicans. Just under two-thirds (65%) of Republicans approve of the President’s performance today, down from 77% in April. This drop is apparent among both the conservative and moderate wings … Continue reading Ponyboy Rulz!

Goddamn Librul Activist Judge!

Via Froomkin, we learn the sordid truth about judge who just sent poor Scooter Libby up the river. [Judge Reggie] Walton, 58, was first appointed to a judgeship on the D.C. Superior Court in 1981 by President Ronald Reagan, served as associate director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy and then in 2001was appointed to the federal bench by President Bush. In 2004, Bush named Walton to chair a commission investigating ways to curb inmate rape, and last month Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. appointed him to a seat on the respected Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. Continue reading Goddamn Librul Activist Judge!

Hated And Irrelevant

That’s your president. President George W. Bush went to Europe on Monday faced with a long to-do list, and one overriding obstacle in the way of all of it: To Europeans, he’s the least popular U.S. president in history. [snip] “Bush is so disliked that he’s not even considered anymore,” said Franco Pavoncello, a leading analyst of Italian politics. “He’s part of the past. Italians have moved beyond him and now care only about who will replace him.” Opinion polls typically put Bush’s approval ratings in European nations between 10% and 20%, but they’re higher in Italy and much lower … Continue reading Hated And Irrelevant

The Surge Has Failed

That’s what the commanders on the ground are saying. Three months after the start of the Baghdad security plan that has added thousands of American and Iraqi troops to the capital, they control fewer than one-third of the city’s neighborhoods, far short of the initial goal for the operation, according to some commanders and an internal military assessment. The American assessment, completed in late May, found that American and Iraqi forces were able to “protect the population” and “maintain physical influence over” only 146 of the 457 Baghdad neighborhoods. In the remaining 311 neighborhoods, troops have either not begun operations … Continue reading The Surge Has Failed

Chimpy’s Kangaroo Court System Loses In His Own Kangaroo Court

Oh, this is fantastic. The child soldier that our military accused of war crimes for lobbying a grenade at an invading soldier gets off on a huge honking technicality. It seems the Military Commissions Act is fatally flawed. A military judge on Monday dismissed terrorism-related charges against a prisoner charged with killing an American soldier in Afghanistan, in a stunning reversal for the Bush administration’s attempts to try Guantanamo detainees in military court. The chief of military defense attorneys at Guantanamo Bay, Marine Col. Dwight Sullivan, said the ruling in the case of Canadian detainee Omar Khadr could spell the … Continue reading Chimpy’s Kangaroo Court System Loses In His Own Kangaroo Court

Destroy America To Save The Chimp

Via the Raw Story, I love it when Republikkkans show their true colors. In his first interview as the chairman of the Arkansas Republican Party, Dennis Milligan told a reporter that America needs to be attacked by terrorists so that people will appreciate the work that President Bush has done to protect the country. “At the end of the day, I believe fully the president is doing the right thing, and I think all we need is some attacks on American soil like we had on [Sept. 11, 2001],” Milligan said to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, “and the naysayers will come … Continue reading Destroy America To Save The Chimp

Today, in Prague. Your President Neuters Himself It’s beginning an important trip to Europe. The Global War On Articles Continues People in this country took risk necessary so that the people could actually live in a free society. A Supporter In Change I see that contradiction, and therefore, I’m a strong supporter in changing our visa waiver policy. Who Listens To Those Cries? I will work with Congress to come up with a policy that, of course, meets our needs, security needs, for example, but also treats the people of the Czech Republic with respect and who listens to those … Continue reading Your President Speaks!

Headed For The Remainder Bin

$5,000 a photo? Relatively speaking, he can’t give them away. Gas prices may be up, but there’s something that’s apparently a little cheaper these days: A photo with President Bush. Yesterday, Bush headlined a fundraiser for the New Jersey state GOP, where donors could pay $5,000 to pose for a photo with the Commander in Chief. Expensive photo op, right? Well, that’s actually cheaper that what donors paid just a year ago for a grip and grin with Bush. Last summer, GOP officials around the country charged at least $10,000 a pop for presidential photo op, a bargain compared to … Continue reading Headed For The Remainder Bin

Feel Safer Yet?

The Assministrations’ main argument for keeping Alberto Gonzales on the job has been that as Attorney General he has done a remarkable job protecting America. Oh, really? The nation’s murder rate rose slightly last year but the number of robberies skyrocketed by 6 percent, preliminary FBI data released Monday show. The statistics were part of an overall 1.3 percent rise in violent crime across the country in 2006 — the second straight annual increase. [snip] The modest increase in murders reflected a mixed bag for cities. The number of homicides in major metropolitan areas — those with at least 1 … Continue reading Feel Safer Yet?

Friday, in Washington, on immigration reform. There Is A Lot Of Americans I say the system isn’t working because there’s a lot of Americans who say that the government is not enforcing our border. Addressing The Addressed I want to address a couple of the key issues that people are addressing. Does Not Know The Meaning Of The Word “Illicit” In other words, there are some words that illicit strong reactions from our fellow citizens. Come Into Be Well, the truth of the matter is, certain aspects of the law don’t come into be until certain border measures are taken. … Continue reading Your President Speaks!

Today on Holden’s Obsession with the Gaggle

From Holden: My advice to Scottie: Yucca Mountain is not your issue. Let it go. Q Can you preview the remarks today, both what he’s going to say to the Joiners — the overarching remarks, and particularly Yucca Mountain? [snip] MR. McCLELLAN: I expect he probably will talk some about Yucca Mountain. The senator from Massachusetts was recently in Vegas, and it was interesting to hear his latest comments about Yucca Mountain. He is someone who has had changing positions on this issue. The senator has said one thing when he’s in Nevada, but done another thing when he’s in … Continue reading Today on Holden’s Obsession with the Gaggle

Your President Speaksapalooza, Part I: Everybody

Chimpy gave a series of interviews to representatives of the foreign press today in hopes of burnishing his image before he travels to the G8 meeting next week. Let’s kick it off with the roundtable interview with foreign print media. Learned How To Pronounce “Hospitable”, Doesn’t Know What It Means I feel very strongly that the United States must take the lead in promoting democracy around the world — even in places where it may not look like it could — that it’s very hospitable, because I believe, ultimately, it is hospitable. Last night, in New Jersey. Do You Trust You? If you believe in cutting taxes, it means you trust you to spend your money better than the government can. There Is Some People We are a nation at war. I wish I didn’t have to say that, but that’s the reality of the world in which we live. Now, I understand there’s some good, decent people who disagree with that assessment. Not Familiar With The Word “Reason” Oh, I know there’s a big debate about how to deal with these folks. I will just tell you my view. You can’t … Continue reading Your President Speaks!

Today, in Washington. After A 518-Word Introduction By His Wife Thank you all. Please be seated. Laura, thanks for that short introduction. You’re Not Having Enough Money It doesn’t take a Ph.D. in economics to figure out, if you’re paying a lot of money on interest, you’re not having enough money to support your own people. Spend The Money We’re focusing increased American assistance for developing nations on three key goals — in other words, we have some goals, we’re not just going to spend money. We have a reason to spend the money and we expect there to be … Continue reading Your President Speaks! Again!
