Oliver: If President Obama is doing what is within his power to depress his base vote and give the Republican party a new lease on power, well he’s doing a great job at it. If his goal is to be a strong leader and a great Democrat, he’s failing miserably at it. 2010 was a repeat of 1994 and 2002, when all the force of moral good on the side of liberalism can’t overcome a Democratic party that simplywill not fight. If he continues on this path, and nothing – absolutely nothing – has shown me otherwise, he’s setting himself … Continue reading Giving It Away

She’s dying, and this, this is what CBS “News” has to say: Betsy Gleick, executive editor of People magazine, which first reported Elizabeth Edwards’ current condition on its website, said, “She is at home, she is surrounded by loved ones. Her children are all there. She has good friends there. Her sister is there. And they are sort of hanging out and talking and looking at photos, and that’s what we know. She’s obviously very sick. She had stomach pains over Thanksgiving, and they found that the cancer had spread to her liver.” Well, thank God we’ve interviewed People magazine’s … Continue reading Elizabeth Edwards
Blogging from lil’ ole me will be light this week. My shop computer is at death’s door and crashes purt near every time I use the interweb so I cannot blog from work. I can, however, post a pretty picture of Oscar admiring my gallery’s Facebook page: So, it’s an extra edition of catblogging as well as a shameless plug for my business, Arius Gallery New Orleans. Our web page is out of date but the Facebook page is chock-full-o-info. Why? It’s free and even a knucklehead like me do it without assistance. Continue reading The Retail Blues
Anna Tarkov: In case you didn’t catch it, the writers of WaPo’s The Fix want you to know that they’re super savvy about the political process and they know better than you. Now, I am prepared to accept this kind of thinking on some level. For instance, most of us would agree that a meteorologist knows more about the weather than we do. They have tools that we don’t have and they have a specialized degree which required them to learn all sorts of things about clouds and wind and moisture and currents. Thus if a meteorologist says hey, I’m … Continue reading Earning Your Superiority

New York Times article details Palin’s political machine.
Sarah Palin has clarified for the first time in a newly published interview that she is seriously considering a presidential run.
“I am,” Palin told New York Times writer Robert Draper when asked if she was weighing a run in 2012. “I’m engaged in the internal deliberations candidly, and having that discussion with my family, because my family is the most important consideration here.”
In a personal profile to be published in the upcoming New York Times Magazine, Palin said her decision would involve “evaluating whether she could bring unique qualities to the table,” admitting the biggest challenge would be proving her record.
Whoa…this article gives me great hope! And man, it sounds like she’s VERY SMART to me. Her instincts are brilliant, and those who underestimate her do so at their peril.
You say she’s “unelectable”…? yeah and you said Bristol couldn’t dance…How’d that work out for ya?
Love this at the end (Sarah is IN CHARGE)
“Palin heavily edits or at times completely writes most of her own speeches and insists on reviewing any statement issued by SarahPAC,”
New York Times article details Palin’s political machine.
Big Deal. Who cares. What I wanna know is, what’s the latest gossip about Bristol and DWTS???
And as usual, Free Republic is the main source of info to catch up on this truly important stuff.
If you think about the whole picture Palin is the only one that would notcowtail to the global agenda.
She will be bashed in the media because of this.
I think her show with Greta on drilling in Alaska makes Palin brilliant in exposing the “protect wildlife” bogus liberal story and vital to our economy.
I hope she runs and I pray she can win. She needs to do something to appeal to the independent voter that even the media can’t spin.
Exactly right!
Well, also about 80,000,000 voters.
I’ve been sharing those links today with DWTS doofuses.
You should see their heads explode!
I like Sarah. I do. And I feel for her as her idiot daughters are a major embarrassment.
But to many FReepers who worship DWTS and see NOTHING wrong with what Bristol (and now Willow) are doing… I like to poke fun and agitate them.
LOL, you’re(sic) desperation is not a virtue. It’s just desperation.
The only head(sic) that have been exploding have been liberal heads all across the nation…as they succumbed to Bristol Palin making the finals.

Mr. A and I are spending this weekend finishing up a renovation of the World’s Smallest Bathroom (our building was built in the early 1900s and apparently back then they didn’t need bathrooms, or at least didn’t want to become agoraphobic in them, so you can stretch your arms out in ours and touch all four walls if you spin around). What home improvement projects have you recently undertaken? A. Continue reading Weekend Question Thread

I thought that I was a fish out of water when I came to Louisiana. Then, I began to appreciate the glorious weirdness of the Gret Stet and its denizens. (I love the word denizen and rarely get a chance to use it.) Anyway, I had a good friend in college who was from Acadiana: Opelousas to be precise. His name was (you guessed it) Wayne Bordelon. He knew every back road in South Louisiana and loved to play native guide. His mission was to convince me that Louisiana is every bit as weird-albeit in a different way-as my home … Continue reading Where have you gone, Wayne Bordelon?

Last night’s Cavs-Heat game was so bad that midway through the third quarter, I started watching “The Road” to cheer me up. The movie has death, cannibalism and a post-apocalyptic wasteland, but it was better than watching LeBron and the talent from South Beach obliterate the Cavs. At least the movie has redemption at the end. And a dog. By the time the Cavs fell behind by 25 points shortly after halftime, watching the game only had value for two reasons: 1) to see if Clevelanders themselves would hang in and not succumb to the riotous uprisings the national media … Continue reading Cavs at home, not on “The Road”

As the DADT debate continues to meander its way through Congress, I’d like to praise Secretary Gates and Admiral Mullen. They’ve emerged as passionate advocates for the lifting of DADT unlike anyone at the White House; especially the President whose Mr. Spock tendencies seem to have exploded since becoming the Oval One. Fascinating. Back to praising Admiral Mike Mullen. Here’s the money passage from theWapo’s coverage of his Senate testimony: He [Mullen] added: “There are some for whom this debate is all about gray areas. There is no gray area here. We treat each other with respect, or we find … Continue reading Hats off to Admiral Mullen
FromAlbum3 I’m well aware of how thoroughly the deck is stacked against progressives, with the Villager mentality, the corporate media, and the institutional roadblocks (filibuster), and so on. But c’mon —McConnell especially doesn’t even bother hiding the fact that he’s a major league asshole…and the best this administration can do is pretend they haven’t done more to reach out? For the life of me I can’t figure out why the Obama team hasn’t fought fire with fire. For instance, one thing I can think of off hand is that the Republiclown leadership is forever whining about how they want “less … Continue reading I Can’t Believe We’re Losing to These Guys*
Talented Internet, this: The news media’s romance with the fringe may be a stark reflection of how the business has changed in just the past few years. Before there was an Internet, before the explosion of sources of news and commentary, mainstream news organizations could maintain something like a gatekeeper role, downplaying or ignoring stories they deemed unfit for public consumption. Such a paternalistic media culture wasn’t all for the better, of course; who knows how many legitimate stories never surfaced because a few media elites decided not to pay attention? In any event, such restraint seems almost impossible now, … Continue reading The Internet Not Only Kills Journalism, It Excuses Shitty Journalism Too!

Today on Adrastos’ obsession with the Jayhawks: big news, for me at least. After playing a few gigs in the past two years, the band has formally reunited and is recording a new album: When Gary Louris and Mark Olson reformed The Jayhawks two years ago they vowed never to become one of those reunited 1990s bands that tour indefinitely without new material. So in early November they entered Terrarium studios in Minneapolis to cut their first disc since 1995’s Tomorrow The Green Grass. “Our goal is to make the best Jayhawks album that’s ever been done,” Louris tells Rolling … Continue reading The Return of the Dream Team
Do it right now: For the most part, the American ruling class no longer has even the slightest sense of national pride or patriotic attachment to the United States: the average plutocrat is now so far removed from the trials and tribulations of the rest of us that they see us no differently than they see the inhabitants of Rio’s slums or Haitian cholera wards — faraway, unsanitary, shithouse-dwelling failures. Public bus/Public school/Free clinic losers useful as interchangeable meat-cog labor, but otherwise wholly disposable. Every now and then as they raze the American Dream further into oblivion, the ruling class … Continue reading Marry Me, Driftglass
Another day, another dilatory post as I started this one a week. Okay, enough inside bloggerdom. The erstwile Governor of the Gret Stet of Louisiana has published a book. It has given him another excuse to travel to places such as Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. I can’t imagine why, he said batting his eyelashes like an ingenue. I’m pretty sure that PBJ speed dictated the book because the man talks a mile a minute. It’s a good way to camouflage the fact that he’s got nothing interesting or original to say. I, of course, have no intention of … Continue reading Stephanie Grace reads PBJ’s book so we don’t have to
Gloria Borger, seriously, will you please go now? Gloria Borger: Why not give something first though? People don’t like government and this is an easy gimme for the president. [snip] Borger: Can I just defend what the president did today? Sometimes I believe presidents have to make symbolic gestures. Ok? And this was symbolic, just look at your pie chart. And you’re about to get a report from the deficit commission you’re about to sit down tomorrow with congressional leaders. People care about deficit reduction, they don’t like the federal government very much, they think that federal employees are treated … Continue reading ‘People Don’t Like Government’
Some people take their jobs too seriously. Take the head of the Washington State Potato Commission. Sounds crucial to me, y’all.Anyway, this guy Chris Voight ate nothing but spuds for two months as a promotional gimmick of some sorts. He actually lost 20 pounds and ended up sounding like Barry Fitzgerald and was so starchy that his shirts ironed themselves. <rim shot> Despite his disclaimers to the contrary, I suspect Mr. Potato Head was so sick of spuds that he burst into the Kinks song below when the diet ended: As you may have gathered, the narrator of the song … Continue reading Hot Potatoes
