The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia
Tuesday night a man whose name I will not use murdered 8 people; 6 of them were Asian Americans. Seven of the dead were women. Earlier that evening Donald Trump, while on live television, used a slur to refer to COVID-19. What did the media fixate on? That he had told everyone to get vaccinated. Somehow the year long rise in violence against Asian and Pacific Islander Americans, that began because the same racist former president consistently used racist language to describe a virus, wasn’t worthy of conversation. Wednesday morning the Cherokee County, GA’s Captain Jay Baker told us that … Continue reading The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia

A Postcard From Flavortown
Can a clown be a hero? It’s happened before. After all, it’s the clowns who are able to wring not only the laughs from the belly but the tears from the eyes and the dollars from the wallets. Sure Jerry Lewis played an imbecile on the big screen but there he was every Labor Day on the small screen wedeling millions out of the viewing public. At that point do you think the Muscular Dystrophy Association cared if he did prat falls for a living? Same thing with Guy Fieri. That’s why he’s a hero around these parts. Today on Tommy T’s obsession with the Freeperati – Darwin or lose edition
This is going to be a short one this week, people. With the only Trump news being his showing up at a dog charity to announce that he loves dogs (sorry) wants to siphon off the charity money for his daughter-in-law (I guess they haven’t found out about THIS yet) that his daughter-in-law is running for Senator in NC, they’ve just been moping about.

Nearly Half of Trump Supporters Won’t Take the CCP Virus Vaccine: NPR, PBS, Marist Poll
Epoch Times ^ | 03/12/2021 | Samuel AllegriPosted on 3/12/2021, 7:35:04 PM by SeekAndFind
Almost half of former President Trump’s supporters don’t plan to take a CCP virus vaccine according to a poll by NPR, PBS, and Marist.
The poll indicates that 47 percent of people who identified themselves as Trump supporters would not want to be vaccinated when the doses became available to them.
Upon widening the demographics, the survey found that 41 percent of Republicans would not take the vaccine, compared to only 11 percent of Democrats saying they wouldn’t take it.
In total, about two-thirds of Americans polled said that they’ve already taken a vaccine or would take one when they can.
Thirty-eight percent of white evangelical Christians said that they would not take the vaccine. Thirty-seven percent of Latino Americans would refuse to take the shot, along with 28 percent of Caucasian Americans and 25 percent of black Americans.
Some data about lockdowns were also collected, showing that nearly three-quarters of Republicans think that the states should open up in order to restart the economy.
In contrast, 78 percent of the polled Democrats said that the lockdowns should be prioritized to contain the spread of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.
A former advisor to Bill Clinton said the United States is becoming a “totalitarian state” due to COVID-19 lockdown orders.
Former Democratic adviser Naomi Wolf, who aided former President Clinton during his second reelection bid, told Fox News in February that the nation is “moving into a coup situation, a police state” as a result of lockdowns.
“The state has now crushed businesses, kept us from gathering in free assembly to worship as the First Amendment provides, is invading our bodies … which is a violation of the Fourth Amendment, restricting movement, fining us in New York state … the violations go on and on.”
To: SeekAndFindThis poll is a lie. The number of those of any political leaning who are willing to take the vaccine is MUCH lower than they want to admit. It’s not a coincidence that the propagandists at NPR, PBS, and Marist promote these fallacies.

I think I’ll wait awhile to see if any longer term side effects pop up.

If the left truly believes that the shot is the answer and without it you could die from covid (we all know many of the deaths were because of mismanagement like Cuomo’s stick um in a nursing home)…..then why is it the(sic) are not happy Trump supporters are not getting the shot ………they would love to be rid of us

LOL!
I’m fine with those that are ‘at risk’ getting the shot as long as it’s NOT mandated and they are doing it of their own Free Will. Their body, their choice and all that rot.
I don’t need one at my age, and I’ve NEVER had a flu shot of ANY kind in my entire life. I’m certainly NOT starting now!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I LOATHE Mother Government. I never DID trust her, and she’s certainly NOT gained ANY points with me in this past year, and especially NOT during President Trump’s first term, and his STOLEN second term.

Today on Tommy T’s Obsession with Random Ruminations – Demo Hell edition
On recording demos (in case you missed last week’s RR post) In the mid-80s, I worked at Good Vibrations Recording Studio as intern, then engineer, and then as Manager. We were a 1” 16-track studio, originally founded by Dallas great Charlie Pride, that did almost exclusively demos and EP releases, with a few albums and commercials thrown in. Thanks to some very good mikes and even better engineers, we managed to siphon off some work from the big 2” 24-track studios in the area, and everyone (including the first MTV Basement Tapes winners 4 Reasons Unknown) was happy when they … Continue reading Today on Tommy T’s Obsession with Random Ruminations – Demo Hell edition

Saturday Odds & Sods: Day After Day

I’m getting vaccinated this afternoon at the Morial Convention Center. I’m a bit nervous and uncertain as to which vaccine I’ll be getting. I’m fine with any of them. The one-shot J&J variant has considerable appeal because I hate needles. Here’s hoping I get jabbed by someone with a light touch. Just don’t give me a smiley faced Band-Aid. I hope that’s not too much to ask. Enough jab jabber.
It’s pollen season in New Orleans. The mighty oaks are spewing forth their yellow poison (to me) and my eyes are red and runny. If I were a Republican, I’d turn this into a culture war grievance but I’m not so I won’t.
This week’s theme song was written in 1971 by Pete Ham for Badfinger’s Straight Up album. It was a smash hit across the globe hitting number 4 on the Billboard charts in the US&A. The song was produced by George Harrison and featured George on slide guitar and Leon Russell on piano.
We begin with the Badfinger original:
I had no idea that the second version existed until I checked out Second Hand Songs. Ladies and gentlemen, Bradyfinger:
The Brady Bunch kids cut two albums of then contemporary hit songs. It’s weird to hear a chirpy version of Pete Ham’s mournful song. If it weren’t so damn funny, I’d give it the finger, then eat a Butterfinger. Candy is the cure for many of the ills of society including Bradyfinger.
Speaking of fingers:
It’s time to cut out (cut off?) the finger jokes and jump to the break.
Satin Doll

Satin Doll began life as an instrumental. It was written in 1953 by Duke Ellington and Bill Strayhorn. It was a hit and Johnny Mercer subsequently added lyrics. The Man from Savannah was everywhere.
We begin with the Duke Ellington Orchestra 1953 original followed by a 1962 live version captured on film:
Hope Is The Thing With Feathers
When I returned home earlier this week after my weekly super-exciting grocery trip (aka, what is missing from my order this week?) I was startled to hear a bird call I’d never heard before. This bird meant business with his ear-splitting song. I bustled inside singing the song over and over so I could immediately google possible suspects. I couldn’t find it and I have since forgotten it. But because he was so aggressively marking his territory with sound, I bet I’ll hear him again (and this time I’ll make sure I have my binoculars with me). I got my … Continue reading Hope Is The Thing With Feathers

Capitol on high alert as QAnon followers push conspiracy theory Trump will be made president in THREE DAYS
The Sun (UK) ^ | March 1st, 2021 | Joseph GampPosted on 3/1/2021, 8:57:42 PM by Mariner
THE US Capitol will remain on high-alert until mid-March amid a bizarre theory that Donald Trump will become president this week.
Thousands of National Guard troops will remain in Washington over fears QAnon’s claim may lead to another attack on the US Capitol, after followers spoke of a “military investigation” into President Joe Biden.
The request for 4,900 National Guard troops to continue their deployments in Washington until March 12 was made by US Capitol Police, Robert Salesses, a Pentagon official said.
“We work very closely with the FBI, Secret Service, and others and the Capitol Police to try to determine what they believe that threat is, and then looking at what they believe is the need for the National Guard, or the types of mission sets that they need support from, we work very closely with them to try to determine what that is.

TOUCHDOWN!!!
I heard Covid effects(sic) the brain causing paranoia. I am afraid all the elected leaders in DC have been infected and now suffering(sic) from the long term side effects of Covid-19.
We need to have all of them examine(sic) for antibodies. If they are suffering from paranoia, they need to step down or (sic) removed from office.

Today on Tommy T’s obsession with Random Ruminations – “studio daze” edition
OK – when I was playing in various Dallas bands, I was working a day job – since I already had a commercial drivers license from back in Waco (where I was driving a 20-ton dump truck for the City, hauling asphalt for the Streets Department).
I was working in North Dallas hauling forklifts with a 10-wheel rollback. My boss eventually decided to get out of the hauling business and sold the truck.
Suddenly I had a lot of time on my hands, so I went over to a recording studio that I had passed numerous times as it was close to my job. The name of the place was “Good Vibrations Recording Studio”, and I found out that it had been started by Charlie Pride’s band members.
I talked to the owner and his lead engineer, and they gave me a little test. The studio had a very nice Neumann condenser mike, and the owner said “Go out there and put a pad on that mike.”
I went out and found a foam rubber mike protector (spit guard), and put it over the Neumann. I went back and they were both laughing. What I didn’t know was that condenser mikes have a switch to limit the output, so that an amp has the same dynamics as a vocal. It’s called a “pad”.

.
They took me on anyway, as an intern. I learned a lot in a short time, and after a number of months, the owner called me into his office and asked me if I wanted to be manager. I said yes (of course).
Good Vibrations was a 1″ 16-track studio (Teac/Tascam), and as such, did mostly demos for local bands who didn’t want to spend $100 / hr to record in a 2″ 24-track place. We did a fair amount of business, largely because we had outstanding microphones, which are any studio’s most important asset. One day, a local group called “4 Reasons Unknown” came in to do a demo that would shortly be the track for a music video .
The group’s manager got them a slot on a new competition on MTV (you may remember MTV from back when they were just music videos) called “The MTV Basement Tapes”. They won the competition. Over hundreds of bands that submitted songs. For real.
Suddenly, the phone started ringing off the hook, and we were booked 24 / 7. Everyone wanted to record at the little place were the first MTV Basement Tapes winners recorded. I didn’t get much sleep in the months that followed.

.
So – we’re at the studio daze part of my random ruminations series. Click on the “read more” for the first installment.
