Boardwalk Empire Thread: A fucking breadstick in a bow tie

I’ve been meaning to blogBoardwalk Empire since season-1 but life kept getting in the way. I’m going to bitch slap life and tell her to get the hell out of the way. End of semi-useless introductory paragraph. Okey dokey, time for some random and discursive (do I make any other kind?) comments on the season-3 opener, Resolution. Viva NYE: Showrunner/auteur Terence Winter seems to love New Year’s Eve. This is the second time he’s opened a season with a party scene replete with folks drinking Nucky’s booze and getting paid off by him. This time there was an Egyptian theme … Continue reading Boardwalk Empire Thread: A fucking breadstick in a bow tie

Not Them

This isn’t likely to hurt Mitt much, really.  I mean, I’d love to be wrong, and see him lose 90-10 instead of 60-40 like he probably will, but come on.  This is what Republicans basically think.  Everybody but them is getting away with something.  Everybody but them is getting some kind of special government help to succeed. Everybody but them has unearned happiness, undeserved prosperity, and suspect advantages.  They don’t see themselves when Mitt talks about people who don’t pay income taxes, even if they don’t pay income taxes because they’re old, or have kids, or don’t make enough money. … Continue reading Not Them

‘You’re Not Supposed to Support the Strike’

Look, I see where Miller’s going with this: My friend, a widely known pundit, wanted to tell me that he didn’t believe the poll, which was conducted by We Ask America. After some back and forth about what the pollster could’ve or should’ve asked, I finally told him thatas an older, white person with no kids in the public school system, he’s not supposed to support the strike. The poll, taken after three full days of no school, found that a 52 percent majority of whites disapprove of the strike. Whites were the only ethnic group that expressed a majority … Continue reading ‘You’re Not Supposed to Support the Strike’

Today on Tommy T’s Obsession with the Freeperati – Mitt’s terrible no-good week edition

Good morning, everyone!

I was going to rest my re-injured hand(broke/tore my right thumbnail 3/4″ into the quick on Wed.) for another week, but Mitt’s Very Bad Week happened. So – applesauce, bitches!

You know, I was concerned that the Freeperati would be despondent overBad Will Hunting – The Smirkening, until I read these justifi…er, reasons why Mittens’ response wasso misinterpreted –

“His face is ALWAYS like that!”

Will ‘the smirk’ come to haunt Romney? [when the media need to bury you, their pit is bottomless]

That’s quite some smirk on Mitt Romney’s face as he walks away from
the podium in Jacksonville, Florida, having just woven in criticism of
Barack Obama to his reaction to the murders in Benghazi. The photograph
was taken by Charles Dharapak of the Associated Press, and I suspect
it’s going to be one of the most significant images of the campaign.
Maybe Mr Romney was just unlucky, but on the other hand… are you
surprised? Honestly?

*********************

I found this particularly interesting because yesterday while
listening to Barack Obama’s first press availability on the Libya
murders, it struck me that his voice still rang with the same
undisguised narcissism it always conveys (there was no hint of emotion
for the death of Americans).

Romney smirking?

The idea of “Mitt’s smirk” as the new media and blogosphere smear is telling.

I can’t postthe photo (AP) but it’s at the source.

To: Cincinatus’ Wife

That is not a smirk! It is a strained smile.

The only thing that could have made it any better would have been a strained chuckle. Because it’salways appropriate to smile when an American Ambassador is killed.

To: Cincinatus’ Wife

In terms of inappropriate facial expressions, one only has to
look at the arrogance that characterize the multiplicity of 0bungle
photos that litter the media.

(If you love your freedom, thank a vet.)

Let’s do that, shall we?
We’ll start with President Obama’s smirk during his press conference (bonus Hillary smirk included):
ObamaLibya
.
Now, Romney’s strained non-smirk:
RomneySmirk
.
See?Identical!

To: Sacajaweau
That is not a smirk on Romney’s face but the picture of the fag that
wrote this has a smirk on his mouth… or maybe it’s stretch marks.

There’s nothing worse than a fag with stretch marks, is there?

So friggin what…?

I’m a smirker, and you’re not!
And, of course:

To: Cincinatus’ Wife

Romney always has this look on his face. It is just how he looks;
like him or not
. For someone to say he is smirking is the ultimate in
media bias. Unbelievable.
You could find probably 1,000 pictures of him with the same look on his face.

(Encourage all of your Democrat friends to get out and vote on November 7th, the stakes are high.)

That’s because a smirk is his habitual expression, right?
Is that what you’re saying?
A smirk is asmile
evokinginsolence, scorn, or offensive smugness. “A constant smirk upon
the face, and a whifling activity of the body, are strong indications
of futility,” theEarl of Chesterfield once wrote in a letter to his son.
.
Colour me unsurprised.
More strained smiles after the partition thingy..

Even Netanyahu Is Like, ‘Leave Me Out of Your Crazyfest 2012 Shenanigans’

He ain’t having it: Critics have suggested that Netanyahu is pushing the Obama administration to give Iran an ultimatum now out of fear that his leverage will disappear after Election Day. Others have suggested Netanyahu, whose relationship with Romney goes back to the Boston Consulting Group in 1970s, is trying to tip the scales for the Republican nominee. Netanyahu vigorously disputed such charges Sunday. He said he believes Obama and Romney are both committed to preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and that support for Israel in the U.S. is bipartisan. “I have no doubt that they’re equally committed … Continue reading Even Netanyahu Is Like, ‘Leave Me Out of Your Crazyfest 2012 Shenanigans’

Judge Tells Walker, Sit Down Like You Supposed To

This is how we Bucky: Act 10, the controversial law that took away most collective bargaining rights from public employees, was struck down for being unconstitutional by a Dane County judge on Friday. In his ruling on a lawsuit brought against the legislation by Madison Teachers, Inc. and Public Employees Local 61, which represents teachers in Milwaukee, Circuit Judge Juan B. Colas said Act 10 “violates the Wisconsin and U.S. constitutions’ guarantees of free speech and freedom of association.” If money is speech, and corporations and unions are people, then you can’t infringe on their right to free speech. “…You could be another Lincoln…”

I remember the first run of the “Why do you hate America?” censorship that poured out in the weeks and months after 9/11. It was Bill O’Reilly and the other “STFU” freedom fighters who labeled anyone who wanted to stop and think about things for more than three seconds as being someone willing to offer aid and comfort to terrorists. It was a stupid bit of illogical patriotism that belied a larger concern that for all the freedom we were fighting for, we had to pretty much give up our freedom to get it. Facts? Fuck ‘em Discussion? Only for … Continue reading “…You could be another Lincoln…”

Given All the Fucking Givens

Via the Crack Den’s comments thread, here’s a particular piece of stupidity amidst the avalanche of stupidity coming from the Romney campaign right now: Another adviser expressed frustration with horserace reporters declaring Romney’s campaign dead fatally behind, as President Obama pulls ahead in the polls. He said he suspects the press is projecting their own hopes for an Obama re-election at best — and purposefully cheerleading the incumbent, at worst. “I mean, I was expecting this narrative in October,” he said. “You know, the polls are close, and so the media starts cheering on their guy, saying Romney’s doomed. But … Continue reading Given All the Fucking Givens

Pulp Fiction Thursday: Spook Show Detour

I’ve gotten hooked on a show on the Syfy network:Collection Intervention. It features History Detective, appraiser and Tulane alum Elyse Luray.Elyse works with obsessive collectors in an attempt to reign in their collections and to make a few bucks along the way. In a recent episode, Elyse worked with a guy in LA who collects all sorts of oddball pop-culture items. You know, the stuff that I like. The collector had a bunch of spook show posters.A spook show was a live performance that was usually done at a movie theatre from the 1930’s to the 1960s. The posters are … Continue reading Pulp Fiction Thursday: Spook Show Detour
