Kids Need Sex to be Real

ACK BLECH GAH: What is a species? The evolutionary answer seems simple enough: a species is an interbreeding population. Most people walk away from biology classes with this definition, and it is this definition which causes problems. (In the first DVD of Hovind’s debate series, you can hear one college student give this exact definition.) Notice that by this definition, those that are not interbreeding are not part of the species. This means that a virgin is not, by this definition, a human. If you use this definition, child sacrifice would not be considered murder, since murder only applies to … Continue reading Kids Need Sex to be Real

Just chalk … or fire

Maybe it’s a shortsided response on my part, but it’s still jarring to be reminded there are plenty of people who doubt the extent of community online or at best qualify its existence as some kind of cold flat reflection of “real life.” I look back at just this past week: coming together in the Crack Van and on Twitter to bear witness toDADT repeal, the pain of finding out I havetwo more deadfriends in my Facebook list, and another reeling in griefbecause how do you go on when half of you is gone? And then there was yet another … Continue reading Just chalk … or fire

Done. Next?

For the record, I am happy tohave been wrong about the administration being able to overturn DADT. They earned their political capital and I hope they are able to use it to somehow chip away at the Republican majority’s brick wall next year. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep pushing, expecting more, calling them out when our gut tells us. It’s a long fight, almost certainly longer than this administration, and we can’t lose sight of the end. There are avoices clamoringthis week for anyone who everpublicly doubted Obama and the Dems, anyone on the spectrum from the “professional left” to … Continue reading Done. Next?

Setting The Agenda

Via the Crack Den, here’s one for all the passive-aggro lazy-ass journobots talking shit about how they’re helpless in the face of consumers’ desires and can’t possibly be anything other than mental vacuums waiting to suck up an ideaas it drifts past them like a dust bunny: TheNew York Daily Newsnoted this morning, “Thanks in large part to relentless television advocacy by Jon Stewart of ‘The Daily Show,’ the 9/11 bill has risen up the agenda.” It’d be an exaggeration to say Stewart wassolely responsible. Other voices in media (including, ahem, the one you’re reading now) were reporting on the … Continue reading Setting The Agenda

Baptists With Shoes

That’s, of course, an old Episcopalian joke about Methodists.Judson Phillips, one of the Tea Party Nation’s honchos, however, thinks they’re not only shod but their shoes are pink or is that pinko? When I was in Washington this past Friday, I walked by the United Methodist Building, next to the Russell Office Building. The sign in front of the United Methodist Building said, “Pass the DREAM Act.” I have a DREAM. That is, no more United Methodist Church. I grew up in the Methodist church. I left as a teenager because the Methodist Church is little more than the first … Continue reading Baptists With Shoes

‘Appears to Contradict’

Steve points out some weasel language. I know this site has lots of journos and journo-academics and journo-nerd-critters reading, so let me ask you something I’ve been wondering about since I started reviewing articles for the newspaper kids I work with: Are reporters just allergic to the definitive now? Is this a thing they’re being taught, to not flat-out say what they know because … why? I ask because nine times out of ten when I read a story there’s some backing into the actual point, like the “appears to contradict …” above. It just DOES contradict what’s actually known … Continue reading ‘Appears to Contradict’

Happy Kerry Photo: Suck It, McConnell Edition

Actually they are this big. I had McConnell measure them after his mom and I were done. Via Elspeth, baby, baby, baby: This treaty has been delayed at the request of Republicans. It was delayed 13 times… to have more time to deal with the modernization issue, which the administration has completely, totally, thoroughly dealt with in good faith.I’d like to know where the good faith comes from on the other side. They [the administration] put extra money in, they sat and negotiated, they sent people to Arizona to brief Senator Kyl personally. For weeks we delayed the process of moving … Continue reading Happy Kerry Photo: Suck It, McConnell Edition

Satin Doll

A woman came into the shop the other day who was heavily rouged and wearing <you guessed it> satin. If I were Mickey Spillane I’d have called her a doll but I’m not. I’d look pretty ridiculous with a crew cut and I wouldn’t have fit in at Toots Shor’s joint at all. Where the hell was I? Oh yeah, here’s the great Oscar Peterson playing the shit out of Duke Ellington’s <you guessed it again, clever readers>Satin Doll: Continue reading Satin Doll

Blogger Ethics Panels are So 2009

Thank heavens all the uncivil debate and angry rhetoric is out here on the Internet where it can never touch the pristine minds of Americans, while the mainstream mediaupholds gatekeeping and editorial integrity: CNN political director Sam Feist compared the joint debate to past forums the network has co-hosted with organizations such as the Congressional Black Caucus and Rock the Vote. “You find groups [that are] part of the coalition that make up a party and partner with them,” Feist said. “The tea party is clearly a significant part of the Republican coalition.” The presidential primary forum will serve as … Continue reading Blogger Ethics Panels are So 2009

Legends Of Malakatude

I know, I know: I’ve been a malaka of the week slacker of late. It’s not that there’s been less malakatude than usual but I’ve been busy, busy, busy. Anyway, our old pal andformer malaka of the week Haley Barbour has done it again: made racially insensitive and factually erroneous statements. This time Colonel Rebel is praising the arch segregationist White Citizens Council: “You heard of the Citizens Councils? Up north they think it was like the KKK,” said Barbour. “Where I come from it was an organization of town leaders. In Yazoo City they passed a resolution that said anybody … Continue reading Legends Of Malakatude

Juan Williams Who?

Like all Great Wingnut Last Stands, the outrage has fizzled. Yet after an initial flurry of mostly angry e-mails and calls in the wake of the Oct. 20 firing of Williams, the controversy waned quickly and has all but disappeared, station managers say. More important, perhaps, is that few contributors revoked financial pledges made to the stations during fundraising drives held the week of Williams’s firing. New Hampshire Public Radio, for example, raised $473,000 during its fall drive, a record amount for the nonprofit organization that runs a statewide chain of stations. The number of people who called or e-mailed … Continue reading Juan Williams Who?

Today on Tommy T’s Obsession with the Freeperati – “Death to the gays” edition

Well, the clolture vote on DADT went over about as well at Free Republic as one would expect, but it’s borne some uglier-than-usual fruit.

Big Jim wishes to make it clear that no ho-mo-sexual

AlanShorePrejean

sympathizers are going to be keeping their Free Republic accounts. It’s like he’s trying to get it down to thecreme de démence.

If you support the homosexual agenda you are anti-Constitution and you’ll get the zot from FR!
Jim Robinson

A couple more posters got zotted today.

Guess we need another reminder:

“of how insanely and hysterically homophobic I am…”

If you support the homosexual agenda you are anti-constitution

“Cause there isn’t anything in the Constitution about fags. I checked twice.”

and you’ll get the zot from FR. Homosexuals already have the same “rights” as everyone else.

Dontcha love how this fuckstick putsrights in quotation marks? Like it’s a word that doesn’t really exist?

God did not grant and the constitution does not guarantee homosexuals any special rights.

“And that goes double for Negros. As a matter of fact, the Constitution doesn’t say anything about women, either, so fuck ’em. The words are:all men, not “All fudgepackers”, or “All whiny bitches”are created equal.”

In fact, the homosexual agenda is a full frontal attack on OUR God-given, constitutionally protected rights to free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of association, Life, Family, Marriage, Pursuit of Happiness, etc.

You forgot the troops, home schooling, and Mom’s apple pie.

I don’t want it on FR and won’t have it on FR.

Like abortion, if you support the homosexual agenda on FR, your account here will be zotted!

Abortion supports the homosexual agenda on FR? Who knew?

Don’t like it? Tough frickin Shinola! Get the hell OFF this conservative site!!

I worked with a lesbo ( old bag with many mental problems..go figure ) and we got into an argument about fag rights…she said it was not right that her “partner” could not automatically inherit her crap because they could not be legally married. I told her that my wife is not guaranteed my crap if i die and do not leave a will. It would have to go through probate. I told her to do what married people do, and make up a will and durable power of attorney. She thought that was too much to do, and never bothered me again…out of the thousands of fags I have met, only a handful can be remotely considered to be real humans...the rest are mentally deficient, with large amounts of emotional baggage

It is truly a revolting experience when a homo-sexual makes overtures towards me.

“and my dick gets really hard, but that’s just the work of Satan.”
.If murder was legal, there would be a few more dead homo-sexuals. Luckily these incidents have been very few.

Absolutely! Talk about “bitter clingers!” Homos are the most miserable, bitter people I’ve ever had the misfortune of having to work with. Even the closet cases…when things get tough, they start acting bizarre (which is how I figured out what their “preference” was). They’re just a bunch of self-hating little cruds and I can imagine what they’ll do for military morale.

I can’t see their crap being tolerated by tough soldiers and Marines in combat zones. I hope the matter can be dealt with on a personal level, if you know what I mean.

I am totally against homosexuals serving in the military and abortion, but I am also someone that believes that the best way to destroy bad ideas is by debate. FR is free to decide whomever it wants to post or to zot. On the other hand, I believe that FR is missing an opportunity to confront these issues.

FR is NOT a fricken liberal debating society. It’s a God, Family, Country, Life and Liberty liberal-free zone. If you don’t know already where you stand on these fundamental issues of God-Given Liberty without debate, then you sir are NO conservative!! You are either an evil democrat ally or gutless wonder RINO!!

How many times must I tell you that I do not want it on FR!!!!

UPDATED: Final Senate vote on DADT will be at 3 pm ET today. Thanks to all for riding, even though it was early in the morning. Cloture vote for DADT 63 in favor to 33 against. Now only 51 votes are needed in the final vote for DADT to be repealed. Final vote should be tomorrow. DREAM Act cloture vote failed. Because Republicans (and a few Dems) suck. Today on Tommy T’s Obsession with the Observer comments – Glenn Beck on drugs edition!

Pardon me for getting out of my box here, but this is too good not to share. Sarah Palin has the press and the media unhinged over her probable primary run Yesterday, the Oregonian featured an editorial and excellent hit piece called, ” A prediction for 2012:Sarah Palin will toss her hat into the ring.” The article written by featured columnist, Todd Huffman, a Eugene, Oregon pediatrician was entertaining to say the least. Sadly for Dr. Huffman, virtually everything he wrote about Governor Palin cannot be factually proven. Sadly for you, virtually everything you write can never be not said … Continue reading Today on Tommy T’s Obsession with the Observer comments – Glenn Beck on drugs edition!

Don Van Vliet, RIP

They’re dropping like flies this week: Bob Feller, Blake Edwards and nowDon Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart who died earlier today at the age of 69.Captain Beefheart was the touchstone of cool when I was a tadpole His music was a cacophonous cross between Howlin’ Wolf and Pharoah Sanders. As a singer he sounded like Tom Waits’ demented Uncle Don. Waits was one of Beefheart’s biggest fans and said of him: “Once you’ve heard Beefheart, it’s hard to wash him out of your clothes. It stains, like coffee or blood.” I spent far too much time as a kid perfecting … Continue reading Don Van Vliet, RIP

Bob Feller, RIP

Lot of death this week. Here are some random thoughts aboutthe passing of Rapid Robert: – One of the first autographs I purchased as a kid was an 8-by-10 signed by Feller. The price? $3. When I showed it to Dad, he noted that it must be a fake, since the cost was so low. However, he talked to one of His Guys about it later and found out, no, that was about the going rate, since Feller had recently been in town. “It’s Bob’s mission in life to make sure that every man, woman, child and pet has a … Continue reading Bob Feller, RIP

Holiday/DADT Cloture Vote Crack Van Tomorrow

Yeah, I said HOLIDAY. Bring it, Beck. At the request of the lovely and talented Virgo, we will haz a van tomorrow, beginning whenever she feels like putting it up. Blake Edwards, R.I.P.

The director of such film classics asBreakfast At Tiffany’s, thePink Panther series, The Party andVictor/Victoria has died at the age of 88. I think thatThe Party is one of the funniest films ever made and seeing it on the big screen as a tadpole was a key moment in the development of my sense of humor. Gordon Laughs

Watching the notoriously humor impaired former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on The Daily Show was an out of body experience for me. He’s on a book tour plugging his tomeBeyond The Crash and had a moderately interesting chat with Jon Stewart. But when Stewart asked if “we’re all Socialists now,” Gordon dropped the ball and didn’t say “I was a Labour PM and what’s wrong with a bit of socialism?” The Labour Party *used* to be a Social Democratic party until Blair and Brown fell in the love with “the markets.” That dalliance led to an economic boom from … Continue reading Gordon Laughs
