Saturday Morning Election Update

If you believe some right-wing pundits, the Romneymentum keeps on keeping on. Those of us in the reality based community know that while the popular vote will be closer that it should be, Willard peaked 2 weeks ago, which means: There is only a 16.3% chance of electing our first robot President. Maybe the Mittbot should challenge Barack to a game of Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots: Continue reading Saturday Morning Election Update

Living for Bread Ain’t Worth Living At All

RMJ on a Lent I could get into: You have heard; you have seen; perhaps today you even bear the ashes on your head; perhaps you didn’t, or you wiped them off at the church door. It doesn’t matter! What matters is what you do, and if you remember that you are dust, and to dust you will return, then you’ll realize that we are all dust! And we are all deserving, we are all going down, in the end, to the same place, and it’s high time we started sharing the joy of the experience rather than fearing we … Continue reading Living for Bread Ain’t Worth Living At All

Even More Adventures In Social Media; or, Have These People Ever Heard Of The Internet?

Behold, the Internet!

Okay, so maybe I’m doing this bit too often, but it’s just comedy gold.

Once again, a cousin posted something stupid, and I did this idiotic thing called “responding with facts.” Naturally, things only got better from there.

CAST OF CHARACTERS:

  • Red: God-bothering first cousin
  • Blue: Yours truly
  • Purple: Cousin’s African-American acquaintance
  • Green: Cousin’s god-bothering in-law

It’s pretty awesome, and you can see the beating after the jump.

Obama Is Winning Which Still Means He’s Losing Because Romney has Hope

HORSE RACE: Polling shows the race remains a toss-up heading into the final days. But Romney still has the tougher path; he must win more of the nine most-contested states to reach 270 electoral votes: Ohio, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado, Nevada, Wisconsin, Iowa and New Hampshire. So it’s a toss-up, except for the insurmountable odds Romney faces. Good to know. Friday also offered an economic finale to the campaign with the release of October jobs reports that contained better than average economic news but gave both campaigns a talking point. They both had a talking point! Oh my God, … Continue reading Obama Is Winning Which Still Means He’s Losing Because Romney has Hope

Friday Election Update

Nate Silver has been taking a lot of unfair shit from wingnuts, and even the public busy body editor at the New York Times. It mostly involves people who dislike the conclusions that his statistical method comes up with. Hell, I didn’t like his predictions for 2010 but he was right. I’m pretty sure Nate will be collecting that bet money from a certain MSNBC morning show host; that is, if Joe Scarborough is, uh, fair… On to today’s outlook: There is only a 19.1% chance of electing our first robot President. Now if it were the robot from Lost … Continue reading Friday Election Update

Great Moments In Gangster Film History

Posting that picture of the Gypster and the gas hose got me thinking about some of my favorite cinematic gangster moments. Since I compared Gyp to Cody Jarrett from White Heat, I thought I’d post *my* favorite image from that Jimmy Cagney-Raoul Walsh classic. It’s the scene where Cody locks a guy in his trunk, starts nibbling on a chicken leg and then shoots the guy through the trunk whilst eating: Continue reading Great Moments In Gangster Film History

Quick debate forecast

No matter how well the Prez does tonight the right wing echo chamber will declare a Mittbot victory. The MSM will call anything but a total Rick Perry-like meltdown by Romney a victory. Why? The MSM wants drama and a close election. The reporting on recent polls shows this: the talk has been of tightening instead of the real headline, Obama is at or over 50% in most national and swing state polls. Plus Ohio seems to be slipping away from the GOP. That’s why the estimable Nate Silver has bumped his victory chances up to around 85%. See you … Continue reading Quick debate forecast

Crack Van Tonight

Presidential debate edition, so get your asses in here starting around 7:30 PM CST. Here’s how uber-serious journalism covers this bitch: Obama and the four-corners offense:Remember the days before there was a shot clock in college basketball? The team that led late in the second half just held on to the ball, milking the clock and draining any hope of a comeback from their opponents. Go back and watch Obama’s debate performance in 2008 against Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and you will see a candidate who knows he’s ahead and just wants to make sure he holds on to the … Continue reading Crack Van Tonight

Deep Ransomware Thought

I’ve been a hardcore Mac person most of my life. From the Mac Plus to the boxy Quadra to the Blueberry iMac to the tidy whitey iBook I’m typing this on, I’ve had ’em all. When I bought my retail business it came with a PC that had a kick ass POS system. When I closed the business, I brought it home and made it our main home computer since it’s newer and more powerful than the aformentioned lap top. I’d never had a t rojan horse virusy thing until today. The HP PC went berserk and was seized by … Continue reading Deep Ransomware Thought

Today on Tommy T’s Obsession with the Freeperati – sorry smorgasbord edition

OK, folks -Wayback machine time again.

There’s a huge backlog of stuff too funny not to use, but too old to be current, so let’s scrack open some rotting drums of Freepitude and find out if this stuff gets any better with age. As a reward for reading through to the end – Jim Rob has a come-to-Romney moment.

Once Driver of ‘Cain Train,’ Herman Cain Now on Board for Romney

One-time GOP primary front-runner Herman Cain, who exited the race
amid spiraling allegations of sexual infidelity, hears no call from the
campaign trail after his failure to make it all the way to this week’s
Republican convention in Tampa, Fla., he said today.

“No, I don’t
[miss campaigning,]” Cain, a conservative radio host and former
pizza-chain CEO who momentarily led the pack of GOP candidates before
dropping out in December, told Terry Moran of “Nightline.”

“It’s
always bittersweet when you compete in anything, but I said from the
very beginning, whoever gets the nomination, I am going to support them
fully,” Cain said on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention
in Tampa, Fla.

Cain, who briefly tapped into a party then
frustrated with Mitt Romney, was not invited to speak at the convention,
a snub he says doesn’t offend him. “I’m not going to be participating
with the formal convention program, but it’s not about me,” he told
Moran. “It’s about giving exposure to some young stars who are running
for office.”

Cain’s road to endorsing Romney, set to be nominated
later this week, was a long one. After dropping out, Cain, 66,
initially endorsed “the American people,” before throwing his support
more directly to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. It was not until
May that Cain endorsed Romney.

Wonder how this is going to affect former riders of the Cain Train?

To: kingattax

Clinching proof— Cain is a baby-killin’ illegal-coddlin’ Neo-Marxist RINO.

You heard it here first.

I won’t say that, but I am very bitter over his refusal to stay in the race. I don’t want to hear him any more. He is just talk.

Anyone who supports Mr. RomneyCARE, author of Death Panels,
and gay marriage and the BIGDIG coverup, cannot
possibly be conservative. That includes the GOPe.

I am very upset with Herman too.
I don’t buy his excuse for dropping out.
He ain’t got no backbone or he is the one who put the info out so he
could drop out. Kinda like the dog chasing the car. He caught it, now
what?
There is another possibility. It was all true.

Folks, this is just the first 5 responses. No nutpicking required.

Careful there…officieal FR Policy is the defeat of RINO Romney.
THose who speak otherwise may face the perils of the zot, and
Rethuglican candidates past or present who support Romney are to be
banished from our midst as heretics. That goes for that irrelevant
RINO-lovin’ quitter Sarah P and the Chimpster as well.

Making You Inferior With Your Explicit Consent

This, precisely: An attendee at the Republican National Convention in Tampa on Tuesday allegedly threw nuts at a black camerawoman working for CNN and said “This is how we feed animals” before being removed from the convention, a network official confirmed to TPM. It’s not just about the racism, though I don’t think they’d have used the word “animal” to refer to a white crew. It’s about a media culture that for 30 years now has heard from the right wing in in this country that it should be ashamed of itself and has loudly and resoundingly agreed. It’s what … Continue reading Making You Inferior With Your Explicit Consent

An open letter to Russ Feingold

Dear Russ, I know I’m not the first to take on this quixotic task and I’m quite certain I won’t be the last. However, if your time as my senator has taught me anything, it’s that there is nothing wrong with trying something if you truly believe in it. I spent part of last week perusing your book “While America Sleeps,” and for the first time in a long time, I actually didn’t mind thinking about politics. From the snippets I read online and in Barnes and Noble, the book was well-reasoned, logical and well thought out. It gave me … Continue reading An open letter to Russ Feingold

Bullies

That’s all they are. They’re just common schoolyard bullies dressed up in suits, and they’re bullying because that’s what bullies do, and that’s what the last 30 years of our politics have been about.Bullying people. It’s not just that people don’t like slut-shaming. It’s that people don’t like bullies. The only people who like bullies are bullies and the pathetic, conflict-averse, morally cowardly hangers-on who think that by throwing a few rocks they’ll avoid getting stoned to death at some point too. Everybody else recognizes what’s going on and thinks it’s gross, and even kind of sad, and shouldn’t we … Continue reading Bullies

Friday Catblogging: Kitten Flashback

In a fit of insanity, I adopted three kittens in 1985. It turned out pretty well but it was almost as wild as putting a ferret down one’s trousers. Two of the kitties lived long and happy lives: Charlie the ginger cat and Manet, la chat noir. The fluffy white cat’s name was Q-Tip and the poor dear only lived to be 4 but he was the one who first bonded with Dr. A so she has a special place in her heart for the cat with the silly name. Hey, at least I didn’t name him cotton swab… Continue reading Friday Catblogging: Kitten Flashback

Protesting Too Much

So a few hundred people with signs was enough toscare the G8 to Camp David instead of my home base, and reporters are acting like small-town beauty pageant losers all HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN TO POOR WIDDLE US, and I can’t tell you the bitching that was going on for the past month or so. About how there were going to be all these awful protesters mucking up the pretty pretty downtown that’s there for people from Wisconsin and Michigan to visit, getting their unwashed free speech all over everything and how horrible that they raise their voices. You know, … Continue reading Protesting Too Much

Summing It Up

“Had there been a Fox News back in 1960, I’m sure there would have been a Woolworth’s Lunch-counter Appreciation Day, too.” And it would have been covered with the same breathless infotainment TV horseshit as this was, which I can’t even. You know, it’s one thing to cover something like this in case a riot breaks out. It’s another to take this utter confusion of brand loyalties with values, and treat it like a member of a governing body doing something, or a natural disaster, or even a real human interest story. This is a fake fucking joke dreamed up … Continue reading Summing It Up
