Friday Catblogging: Kitten Flashback

In a fit of insanity, I adopted three kittens in 1985. It turned out pretty well but it was almost as wild as putting a ferret down one’s trousers. Two of the kitties lived long and happy lives: Charlie the ginger cat and Manet, la chat noir. The fluffy white cat’s name was Q-Tip and the poor dear only lived to be 4 but he was the one who first bonded with Dr. A so she has a special place in her heart for the cat with the silly name. Hey, at least I didn’t name him cotton swab…

  1. My first cat was named “Pussywillow” because he was gray and looked like the catkin of one.
    So I understand Q-tip completely.

  2. They are always so cute as kittens aren’t they? I get sucked in by that and then they live in my house, eat my food, and then, you know what happens.
Q-tip is a great name. I always try to make an acroynm based on something about them. My first cat who lived 17 1/2 yrs was named SASH (She’s A Shit Head)- I never told her why that was her name.
I found a totally white one with beautiful blue eyes at Home depot 13 1/2 years ago. I named her KAAHDO, which is an acronym for Kitty Abandoned At Home DepOt. Two others have kind of normal names. The last one I took in is named SOMR – Reminds Me of Sash, backwards.

  3. We adopted an orange tabby kitten whom we named “Hobbes,” because cats, like life, are nasty, brutish and short. Sweet cat; lived to a ripe old age.
My fiancee now has an adopted stray. She found him at a rest stop on the Natchez Trace Parkway in Mississippi, and named him Tracey. Tracey kept her elderly mom company for the last year of Mom’s life, and he now lives with my fiancee on very cold nights, occasionally goes to sleep on my lap while I’m working on my laptop, and goes outside and Does Kitty Things the rest of the time.
